Hi all,
I am a new member here at this site.

I am basically a graphic designer.I have done B.F.A in applied arts from India. Though a hobbiest for quite some time now but looking forward to jump in this business again sooner. I am looking for a laptop that I can use for designing in softwares like photoshop, coreldraw , Indesign and Illustrator etc. Can anyone recommend any perticular laptop that I can buy to fulfill my cravings for designing. How much should be the ram for operating these softwares, any perticular brand etc etc ?/. I am a little tight on budget. Can I consider buying secondhands from craigslist or kijiji ?
Any suggestions would be higly appreciated.:-)

Best wishes

Komal

MacBook Pro or here for available versions, including 17-inch.

You might also want to look at Apple's refurbished units. All under proper warranties.

I'd say you need 2BG min, but RAM is cheap, and it's best to have as much as can. I'd get 4GB, but would not purchase the RAM from Apple. It's much more cost-efficient to buy it separately.

If you're going to buy a used laptop, definitely make sure you can test it out before you buy it unless it's refurbished. Go for a Powerbook at the very oldest. If you can find one in good shape or buy one refurbished, it will be a great computer. Apple refurbished is a great way to go. Whatever laptop you end up buying, find out how much ram it can take and put that amount in it. It wont cost more than one or two hundred dollars but will make a huge difference in performance. I usually buy ram from MacSales.com, they seem to have good prices and be very reliable. If you get a powerbook, consider also getting a new faster hard drive for it as well, it will make a big difference in performance.
