My neighbor comes up to yesterday and asked to take pictures at his dads wedding. I said I would do it he only offered 50 bucks which is really nothing. Anyways I was kinda freakin out so I used auto setting ,which I never do, and shot in jpeg, which i never do. Well all the pictures looked fine on the camera but when i got home the noise is horrible. I had no idea that the iso was on 1600 I set it for 400 but forget on auto it changes it. So now I am stuck giving my neighbor 500 really noisey pictures.............................................any advice??????

Tell him for another 50 bucks you would have taken the other half of the photo........:)

Noise Ninja or Neat Image can help but only so much, each photo will respond at different levels of noise suppression but not sure how you can completly ever make them the way you would like to have. Good Luck.

Forgot smily face....

Make them Black and white and pass them off as having an exclusive old film effect.

Anyways, for $50 i would'nt worry too much. He is getting more than what he paid for.

Yeah, don't stress over it and go with what you got.

The black and white noisy ones from the last wedding I did were the most popular. :)

No he's not. Any reasonable person would expect decent photos. He likely has seen many of his neighbors previous pics and expected similar results. What he paid was agreed to and if they can't be fixed, he got screwed and should get a refund and an apology and arrangements should be made to re-shoot some of the shots if possible. It's the right thing to do.

Well, an offer of a refund might be in order, but it doesn't sound as if any official contract was discussed. I'm sure there are some salvageable memories. He didn't get THAT screwed for $50. Unless this neighbor of yours is ignorant of how much an average wedding photographer costs or he is just not very nice, I don't think you need to stress.

Stress sucks.

Have fun with the photos and feel free to let us play with miniature versions of them a little, too, if you want.

WEll in my opinion I agree with you yes, he paid you something so he expects decent pictures, but for $50.00 he should know he isn't getting top knotch. what programs have you tried editing in? I found a new one recently it's Photoscape, you can get it for FREE online. it actually was easier to work when messing with the lighting than CS was. I suggest trying that.

I'd kinda like to see some if you wanted to e-mailed me one of 2 i will see what I can do in photoscape before you download it to see if it will help.

The OP said he only offered $50.

You are aware there are people out there who easily get $5000, right?

Personally, I like hi-noise B&Ws......I shot this too quick when my flash couldn't catch up.....I like the way it's got texture when I brought it up. This young lady is the most difficult person to shoot.....and I finally got a decent shot.....w/o the flash.

[thumb]733459[/thumb]

And I love the look on the other young lady's face......just kinda woolgathering....

You can make do, and nicely, if not how you'd originally hoped.

Anyhow......be creative, work with what you got, and if they don't work out, c'est la vie.....he did NOT pay you enough to gripe on any level.....IMNSHO, for $50, he's got no right whatsoever to expect decent pics.

An underexposed mistake is an underexposed mistake. Being optimistic about it is laudable, but it's still an underexposed mistake. The takeaway should be not making the mistake a second time.

Give the guy his 50 bucks back, tell him if he wants the images you'll give him the jpg's on a cd and move on. Why stress about it at all.

If it was your neighbors dad's wedding, he is likely to be old like me, and can't see the noise anyway. : )
The best program that I have used for noise is called Nero Photosnap.

She didn't say they were underexposed.....she said they were noisy because of the 1600 ISO.

She also stated that she made a mistake.

Why *not* try to make something from them?

A wedding isn't generally something you get a do-over with......

Yeah sorry for the confusion. The underexposed comments were regarding your photo. The suggestion on giving the guy his money back was for the op.

How bad is the noise? Does it just seem bad to you cause you're used to super clean ISO100 images? Is nikon really that noisy? (nikonjeb's image is terrible in the noise department. a nice effect for an image or three, but not a whole wedding).

Here's one from tonite's wedding I shot at ISO 3200 (Canon 40D) - RAW, converted to JPG, resized, sharpened and uploaded. Ther'es noise in there someplace, and compared to ISO 100 it's noisy (of course) but it's acceptable and i've printed ISO3200 at 8x10 size and it's fine (just be careful sharpening!).

have you tried any noise reduction software? Noise Ninja is pretty good, but I use Neat IMage and it gets good results provided you get the profile right, when its left to its own devices it isnt as accurate as it could be.

I shot a wedding for a whole day so ceremony and reception. Reception was shot at ISO 1600 like yours was so what I did was use it to my advantage. If you use 'film grain' in PS it makes pleasing results, or you can go for the 'soft focus' approach to minimise the appearance of the noise.

It isnt the end of the world ya know, and depending on what size you're printing (if you are) you might be surprised.

And that shot looks far too clean to be at ISO 3200.

Anyways, there are a lot of methods for either minimising noise, or using it in the processing. Don't sweat it, at least you learned something.

Wow...

If you meant that like it came across......well...

The image totally was a mistake, which I stated in MY post.....perhaps you should read closer.

Personally, I don't give a rat's ass what you think of it....*I* like it, so does the young lady, my wife, her parents.....but what do they know.

I was just trying to be decent and supportive of the OP, not beat her over the head with what she put in the title of her original post.

Nope, it was 3200! Properly exposed helps a LOT.

Here is 100% crop and the EXIF data was left in there this time.

I don't know why you're getting hyper. I said your optimism is laudable, but what value is there in pointing out that you can make something likable out of a mistake when the op is talking about 500 images? A mistake is a mistake. Give the guy his 50 bucks back, learn from the error, move on.

I wouldnt go for the refund until I had exahusted every other possibly avenue of recovery: noise redution, B/w or whatever else.

And the client may not see the mistake at all; they might really like the pics as they come back. Who's to say?
10/26/2008 12:05:31 AM · #23
My two cents is to see how the client feels before a refund. He may not even notice and may even like them.

Ideally how much do time do you want to spend fixing all of these images........considering the pay if any at all was $50. Personally for $50 I'd offer 30 of the best converted to black and white and noise ninja to them. And tell him congrats on marrying off the old man and get back on my life.
