Even mine, which was small compared to others (about 0.08) is more than a single vote of 1 can muster. (The math says a 1 vote drops my score around 0.03 right now.) So what gives? Is it coordinated? Is it just a lot of lower votes with no coordination? But statistically why would this be expected to happen and why always at the end?

It's just odd. It didn't always happen. I remember when I would expect my vote to bump at the end. Hopefully the scrubber gets whatever is being cast unfairly and the best pics win.

This is what I notice, too. I think it's been in about the last year that this weekend dip has started. Before that scores didn't usually change more than about .05 past the 150-vote mark, and usually came up a bit with scubbing. This time I dropped .14 since Friday, and it's been a while since the scrubber hasn't taken me down. And yes, I did use to track my scores during the challenge, so I know it's not just faulty memory.

While I appreciate the thoughts behind the folks that are frustrated because they chose not to go to the zoo. In their comments the claim seems to be the zoo was a cop out because it is so much harder to shoot in the wild.

While that may be true is some cases, in others it is not.

Grizzly
More grizzly
They even built a platform

Other than possibly the drive to get there, sometimes it's a lot easier in the "wild"

I am sure one of the "grizzly bear catching a salmon in mid air" shots would have scored through the roof in the this challenge, even though a good zoo shot is more difficult.

That makes me incredibly sad. Those grizzlies are going to get "Human Adjusted" and eventually get shot or killed because of it. The photographers are also setting themselves up for a good mauling.

Going to send my critter round to all the trolls and have it bite them - then they have to go for a long very painful series of rabies shots!

Don't do that - you and your critter should be getting ready to have a party for your (soon to be) new PB !!

I have no more comments on the zoo vs wild shooting. My mouth is zipped. :)

But, this is ONE challenge that I, personally, will be more than glad to see end at midnight. This is one thread that I won't be sorry to watch be slowly buried either. ;)

My final score update because I've moved onto the next challenge. :()

You left me a wonderful comment, Jamie, thank you! Many others did too, incuding JDubsgirl, ShutterPug, and Jedusi, to name a few!

I would love to stay up til rollover but have to pop out of bed at 5 am and be in downtown Ottawa for 7:30...so I probably won't have a chance to do anything more than take a quick peek at my new PB, and save gloating for later! :-)

The clocks went back last night here in Scotland so rollover will be at 4am for me instead of 5 :) It'll be nice to have an hour less to wait.

Okay, how come mine's still slipping when everyone else's is going up? :(
Lost another .06 in the past 3 hours. At least it doesn't have time to sink much farther.

It might be good to point out that cliche shots are still cliche shots regardless of where you take them. Unless that "grizzly bear catching a salmon in mid air" shot was taken with a unique perpective/presentation it wouldn't have gotten more than an average vote from me. However, you're probably right about what most voters would have given it.

:) I've been trying to comment more lately, as I've been slipping with it. I've been more inspired to with this challenge, there are some truly gorgeous shots. I've never given out so many 10s in one challenge before!

I wonder if the next member challenge with have a Halloween theme!

In 2003 and 2007 there were speed challenges:

I'd score a good mauling shot quite high you know ;)
