He just still bitter about getting 4th place with a 7.5 in the last Wildlife challenge.

And deservedly so since you shoehorned a landscape shot in that challenge. :P

Yeah, nice one - That burning smell coming from New Zealand is Gerry's pants on fire.

Exactly - there will be some voted low because of either the animal they shot or because it might appear to be in a zoo OR there will be some rewarded for being able to manipulate the voter by thinking it is wild. I voted on the quality of the shot - not if I thought it was in the zoo or not. Personally, I viewed it as an animal that you could not walk up to and manipulate them into looking/doing/behaving a certain way. Our pet cat - I can get to do a lot of things when I shoot it and if I can't I just try again later that day or the next. Not a big deal. I viewed this as a one time opportunity to go to the zoo and try to capture an untrained animal in a flattering way while minimizing the "zoo" element. Yes, I am being hugely dinged - whatever, kind of knew that would happen going in. By the way - for this particular shot it was a waiting game and thankfully I had a shooting partner that enjoyed waiting to get the shot too.

Is that the a little green eyed monster I see over there in Texas?

Ironically this reminded me of Jacko's photo, which is probably the most famous depiction of untamed wildness on this site:

Okay - that was funny thank you for sharing. The comments are hysterical.... I have a little froggy shoot today and I might have to replicate with a frog later! LLOL Literally laughing out loud!!

I would just like to say that I have now scored 100% of the shot's and I having gone through everyone of them I am impressed by the range and quality of many of the shots.

There is potential for the top ten to be a very interesting mix - and I would struggle to call the top 5.

edit for awful spilling

I've made it about halfway through and it took me the better part of the evening to do that (and a few other odd things.) Like Steve, I'm delighted with the variety of shots! For those complaining, take some time off from that activity and go spend some time voting. Don't sweat the zoo/non-zoo bit - I don't think it's much of a factor at all. Plenty to see and appreciate!

Well, I have to say I am happy with my score, but more to the point, I have 12 comments. I usually end up with 2 or 3 by the end of voting, and now I have 12 on day 1. So, thanks to all of you. I do appreciate them.

I hate when the comment doesn't seem to match with the vote. Comment says 9, score goes down. :( I know it could mean someone else bumped down, but one can get their hopes up right?

No "wildlife" to be found last week so I entered something that wasn't a mammal bird or reptile and getting reamed for it I suspect, 2 DNMC comments so far) and wouldn't you know it there is a Merlin eating a pigeon in my front yard this morning that let me get within 2 feet of it with the camera and captured some spectacular shots. At least i have something for free study I guess.

As a side note, I really hate it when people feel the need to copy in the text of the challenge description as if you were somehow not aware of it.

Argh, every time I get within a few hundredth's of a 6 I start dropping again. It's taunting meeee!
10/20/2008 07:46:14 PM · #197
Today's later voters seem a bit cranky. Dropped .25 in the last 10 votes. And here I was hoping for a PB again this entry, silly me.

Well I voted early this morning and then went back later today to comment on my top picks.. so it could have been me ;P
10/20/2008 08:04:01 PM · #199
I usually put 'coming back to comment' in the hope that if someone is voting a low vote at the same time I am leaving my comment I will not be credited with that vote, but I sometimes forget to type that in. I didn't enter this challenge, didn't find anything to shoot to get excited over, but I sure am enjoying the variety of photos in this challenge. Nice work!

edited to correct grammar

I didn't drop quite so much, but I have gone from 6.45 to 6.4111, so bleh on grumpiness.
