Either folk are assuming it was taken at a zoo, or it's a piece of crap.

I was at a 7.5 at 4 votes, dropped to a 6.0000 by 9 votes. Now at a 6.2662 at 15 votes.

I don't know what to think. lol

Likely isn't a piece of crap.....Think you just got hit with a few DPC Low Voting "Wildlifes" ;)

LOL, I can't believe people fork over membership just to piss everyone off.

Actually according to comments from some sc members in the prechallenge thread zoo shots are perfectly fine because that is their natural environment. It isn't their native habitat but their natural environment where they were in most cases born and raised.

Unfortunately the trolls don't read those threads and it is their opinion I s'pose.

I guess that I should have recognized that "natural habitat" meant concrete, barbed wire, man built shelters and cast iron fencing, then huh?

My fault.

Well, that's good, because I'd have been mad if there was a cat fight after the challenge started, and I couldn't photograph it for my entry.

ROFL....well, that would have been considered "Domesticated Mammals" then and that would have made the 1 and 2 Morons actually, Correct then! ;)

No need to get snippy there guy. People who actually went through the trouble to get real wildlife shots like you did are definately to be commended. If its a technically good shot then it should score well in the end hopefully. I was only commenting about those voters out there that are dinging the zoo shots just because they're zoo shots. Way to go for going through the trouble you did. I honestly hope your shot does well.

I think we might have scared the voters off. Haven't had a new vote in awhile.

Probably signals that I should go to bed and stop obsessing.

Sheryll.....did you read my other post where I said that I was being snide at SC for not making their intentions clearer?! :) It wasn't YOU that I was referring to in my comment at all.

And, I assume that yours is a zoo shot and I truly hope that you do well as well. But, this is where BOTH of us get screwed because the original challenge description was truly ambigious in it's meaning. SC should have simply put in their description, "Wildlife" and left it at that. Instead, those who didn't do zoo shots, won't necessarily be as interesting as those who did take shots of exotic animals. By the same token, those who did do zoo shots, may be looked upon as not following the challenge rules. Either way, both types of shots have strikes against them, according to voters' interpretations of the challenge criteria. See my point?

And, just for future record....I know that my name is thought of as male....but, I'm a SHE! *smile*

SC's got nothing to do with it beyond validating technicals. Langdon sets the challenges.

Don't ask!

...very disappointed after 400 shots, I pick the wrong one...

I see your point. Mine won't do well either way but I expected it. I just wanted to get back into the swing of things and boy does that update button addiction just kick right back in even after being on the wagon for quite some time.

K10DGuy (referencing the PM) it was just a phrase when I said guy. I was actually speaking to PhotoInterest. Sorry for the confusion. And sorry for the guy anyway since PhotoInterest is a she.... :)

In something like opinions on challenge descriptions the SC's opinions shouldn't carry any more weight than anyone else's. They didn't make the challenge and they're simply interpreting, guessing and attempting to mind-read the same as any of us. I, for one, feel that zoos were not the intended shooting ground.
10/20/2008 01:36:10 AM · #47
Yeah, I don't view zoo shots as the intended home of the subjects, but I won't ding the shot more than a single point. I can't completely destroy a beautiful photograph, but I intend to favor the non-zoo shots. Just my interpretation and voting guidelines for this challenge. First impressions...after first glance, I don't see a top 20 like Wildlife III.

No wonder the SC is saying zoo shots are ok. Look who finished 10th with the highest scoring zoo shot in the last wildlife challenge. :P

Ouch! I thought my shot was pretty decent, but apparently not. Definitely not a zoo shot even though I took a bunch of Wild Animal Park shots on Monday.
