First Fashion Shoot! - DPChallenge Forums

I recently bought my first couple of rolls of seamless, and had my first fashion-oriented shoot! I'd love to hear what you guys have to say about my work here. I'm pretty proud of a lot of these shots, though I realize they all could use work, too. So go ahead and rip 'em apart if you like, as long as you do it constructively :P

Along those lines specifically, do you guys have any tips on posing for fashion? The girl I was working with was not a model, so all of her poses were almost entirely manufactured by me...

I think you did a really good job for your first fashion shoot! really nice compositions and I love the colouring. The only thing I don't like is the red hue on her face.. if you dropped the red in curves it might balance it a bit and you'd still get that nice green/blue hue to the shots. Otherwise you definitely should be proud!!!

Thanks! I had a bit of an interior argument myself with the red hue, but in the end liked the retro look it gave the shots... I'll have to try curves-ing it out, though...

hey try it for sure. it's definitely a personal preference style thing. and for some reason I always run away from any red in skin tone.. doesn't mean I'm right at all! You did a great job..

The images, of course, have to meet *your* design goals and that is far more important than what any of us think. But since you're asking for feedback, I just really don't care for the "posterization" processing (referred to as the red hues in the previous posts). But that's me. Now, if these were to become album covers or something like that ... then such processing is probably in vogue. So knowing the purpose of the shoot matters too.

Thanks, dw! Yeah, I do think that the style was meant for the artsier side of the photographic spectrum--the spoiled-film look was playing well in the pages of Vogue and I decided that I had been editing too many of my images too naturally. It all looked so...digital? And as much as I love the convenience of digital, I infinitely prefer the look of film.

To be honest, a great deal of these shots didn't really look that interesting at all to me when done in a natural style...

yup. it's a subtle difference but I like it a bit better for sure.

I recognize the look you are going for. Sort of a mid 60's catalog appearance. Honestly I can't stand it, but like others have said if you hit the mark on what you were going for then good job. Based on what I remember some of the pro fashion photographers who used to post here saying, I think these are more of catalog/product ads than true fashion shot. They made a pretty compelling argument that fashion photography is more about lifestyle scenes than highlighting a given object. If that's an important distinction to you, it might be worth checking into.

i love your consistent processing on some of them, kinda makes it look like a whole catalogue series of shots. she seems a little shy and uncomfy in many of the shots, but she has great potential and you did a great job for your first shoot imo!
