Holy Hill and Area, No date suggested yet but thinking anything longer than 2-3 weeks will be too late.

I have all my weekend mornings open.

Saturday the 18th would work for me.

I'll take a run up the road tomorrow, check things out and report back. With the recent cold nights, things seem to be progressing quite fast.

Color is just starting to show up here now, I have counted about a Dozen Trees that are all orange, However these trees seem to always be the first to go each year. Going by history it is usually another week or two before the rest of the trees around here start to change.

I think the 18th would probably be the the latest we should schedule this. Anytime past that might be too late.

Only weekend dates I cannot do are Oct 11 and the weekend of Nov 1-2 (which would probably be too late anyway). Somebody name some dates that are bad for them and we'll triangulate our way to sheer confusion - just like last time!

And don't forget, breakfast plans must be articulated!

The Sawmill Inn in Richfield for breakfast gets my vote. Great place!

I'd love to go to shoot the fall colors, I'm not sure I'll be able to go, though. (thanks, strangeghost, for e-mailing me about this thread). I could maybe go on the 11th or the 25th, or on any Sunday in Oct.

I had never heard of Holy Hill - I checked their website, and it says the scenic tower is closed for repairs.

The tower is great but not required to get a good view. Also usually very crowded and a very long climb with camera gear. I was up in the tower last fall on a busy Sunday.

I now have an open slate for dates. So whatever you guys and gals come up with will work.

Fritz, Have you checked out that area? How are the colors doing?

As of last weekend it was very spotty, mostly still just green. Things are progressing really fast this week, though, so I need to do another survey. The color is weird this year, due to the lack of rain for most of the Summer there are quite a few stressed trees and those are way ahead, but the warm September meant that everything else is way behind. Now the last week or so with cold nights has really kicked things off.
I'll report back again in a day or two, when I have a chance to take a run up the road & have a look.

I was able to run out there this morning... holy mackerel have things advanced since last week! Even though color is still spotty here at the house, up there (7 mi. west and a couple hundred feet higher in elevation) it is near peak.
The color is already awesome this weekend, and depending what happens during the week, that is if we don't get rain & high winds that knock it all down, it should be as good or better next weekend.
There is one rather large, ugly fly in this ointment. They still have the scaffolding on the two towers of the church. It's butt-ugly. I would have thought they would have completed work by now.

I drove up to Hartford today, Color around that area is around 40%-50%. The colors that are showing are really bright, It should look pretty awesome when things start to peak. I think we should pull the trigger on this one and try for next weekend. 18th or 19th.

The 18th is still open for me as well...

Having been in the outdoors by me for the the past few weeks, I'd say this weekend that just passed is the peak. I wish I had brought my camera to work with me yesterday because from the top of a windmill the colors and view was amazing. If we were to look further south for next weekend it will peak there. But the coming cold front and wind will wipe the colors out here. Unfortunately I am working everyday now, to beat the the weather and year end, so I won't make this GTG either.

The weather looks good for Saturday.
Any suggestions for time and meetup place?

I vote to meet for breakfast then hit Holy Hill afterwards. 8AM seems like a good time.

Sounds good to me. I would like to suggest the Sawmill Inn, 1729 Wolf Rd, Richfield. Its easy to find right off Holyhill Rd between Hyw 41 and Hyw 175

Good suggestion, and seconded. I don't know if I will have a chance, but we really should check out whether the 40mph winds that blew most of last night knocked down all the leaves. I have a sneaking suspicion that it did some heavy damage.

We had some pretty brisk winds come through here lastnight, Seen a few trees that were bare today. But many trees around here are still green or just starting to turn.

8AM This Saturday at the Sawmill Inn. I'll be there.

If the colors are shot by Holy Hill we could always venture over into Waukesha County to Lapham Peak.

I'm not gonna make it tomorrow guys. Andrea's got the PSAT test in the morning and I'm on breakfast detail here. Have fun!
