So I have been editing this photo, and it looks significantly more vibrant on screen in photoshop than when it is exported.

This is a screen grab in photoshop:

This is the actual saved jpg file:

What gives?? I've tried everything I can think of. It's quite frustrating.

Any critique on the photo is welcome too :)

Thanks!

Photoshop defaults to the Adobe RGB colorspace. For web purposes, you need to convert to sRGB colorspace, under "Edit" in Photoshop (go way down to the bottom of that dropdown). See if that helps.

I've actually found that my pics look correct on DPC using the Adobe colorspace...not the sRGB space. try exporting in different color spaces and see if that helps...

After experiencing the same thing I spoke with another DPC member, dsa157, and he pointed out the "Color Settings" option. You can find it under Edit | Color Settings (at least under CS3). I don't understand it all but the gist is that PS will show you the image based upon embedded color profiles in that image. Certain applications, like PS, can read this profile and adjust the image accordingly. However, web browsers do not read this info and display the images differently. To get a more accurate view of how it will look in a browser, change the setting to "Monitor Color". I'm hoping this is mostly correct. Proceed at your own risk. :)

You can also check into PS help under the "Color Management" topic.

Some browsers care about color profiles, some don't. Firefox is configurable.

See //www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html# for more info

Then you're using a colour managed browser.

The image in question looks fine in FF3 since FF3 is colour managed.

If using a browser which is not colour managed or the image has no embedded profile, sRGB is assumed. This will wash out colours if the colourspace is a space with a wider gamut of colours like Adobe RGB (1998).

Just a thought - if you are using a PS and a color managed browser, keep in mind that you may be seeing your picture the way it should, but those who don't have a color managed browser see it different. If you want to see what your image will look like to most of the world in their browsers, turn on "proof colors" and set it to "monitor". This is how I edit all of my pictures for DPC and the web; when I want prints I will proof to sRGB.

interesting...I didn't know this. Now that I look at my current entries outside of Firefox...all I can say is SH**T. But my scores are really good so I guess the majority of DPC have managed browsers.

I hate color management...so ridiculously complicated...

hmmm...question to all. why does an sRGB file look bad in firefox but great in safari and an Adobe file is just the opposite? if firefox is color managed...why doesn't it show an sRGB file like other browsers?

I can't see a difference in the two. I use FF too. Colour managed. :)

Been here awhile, never checked this tutorial out. I have cs3; my color setting: North American General purpose 2 which it's set at right now. other options are Monitor, North America prepress 2 and North America web/internet. Which one should I use? Most of the images match up, but if I do heavy processing not so much.

Thanks for the tutorial link...but that doesn't answer my question. Why does and sRGB file look bad in FF?
