Looks like the original is Gray, the glare on his forehead is blue in the lower picture.

Funny, I'd have said the opposite. Looks to me like they grabbed the blues in Hue/Saturation and yanked them all out. I think the suite & tie look funny (and the pillow-things behind him) - too flat or something, like you get when you desaturate a color that way.

I'd say blue is the original colour too, the grey suit and tie look like they've been desaturated.

The blue on his forehead could be flash reflection off the suit.

But I would have guessed the top was correct because the black seats behind him seem the more natural color. Plus his shirt is more white in that one without the blue cast (again could be reflection)

I think the gray..

The wrist watch has a bluish cast in the lower picture also. With that lighting, I don't know that the blue would overpower everything around it quite so much.

The skin tones look more natural in the upper photo also. Also the hair on the top of the head looks a little bluish in the bottom photo.

Not sure why anyone would bother to color the bottom photo, or desaturate the top photo...

Oh... Wait... I get it, it is a glitch in the Matrix.

This whole thread has subtle Civil War undertones (tone correction?). :)

The top picture was shot in HD. The bottom one is what the rest of us get. :D

ok so let me see if I'm thinking this through correctly. I took both into MS picture manager (only thing I have here at work) and looked at them back and forth at 400%...I think they desaturated the blue one because look at his forehead, blue tint is gone. Corner of couch behind his head has a hint of blue still to it. Skin color (and color of yellow items) is different, which would happen if you remove blue right? Not totally sure since I did so badly on in this color hue test but just what I'm guessing. Does make you wonder why someone would do it.

If they were colorizing the image wouldn't it be more selective to just his clothing or is it easier to just go all or nothing?

I don't think they were "colorizing" as much as attempting to correct the original (pool photo I assume).

I'm betting top is original, but in order to sell same picture to both news services, the original had to be changed to say they were different pictures.

Funny how the seat colouring is relatively not changed.

Blue original for sure

Definitely blue original, grey edit.

Doesn't someone here have the software add-on for Firefox that gives the EXIF? :) Betting the white balance was not correct for the original. Just a thought...I'll climb back under my rock now...

Looks like white balance issues to me......Grey.

Crazy thought from a relative newbie. I was recently resizing some pics for a photo contest and ran up against something kinda' sorta' like this. One guy's photo was shot in Adobe RGB (all others in sRGB). I tried "Save for Web" and got a strange color cast shift where all the blues turned grey as the software tried to convert to sRGB. Is it possible that the blue image is the real one, and that it was shot with the camera in AdobeRGB color space, and that when someone at Reuters picked it up, they somehow did a save for web thingie or something that caused the color cast shift as it went to sRGB? Just a thought (from someone who knows just enough to be dangerous).

Usually if save for web is used without converting to sRGB, colours wash out, not shift.

Thanks! Still learnin' :-)

I'll vote gray, based on some comparisons of the furniture and electronic thingies in this photo.

I'd guess more like this;

[thumb]724918[/thumb]

which is just the blue with saturation bumped down.

eta; Though this looks definitely grey...
