Considering my first vote was a 1, I'm pretty happy right now.

What he hell does that mean?? I know my score dropped with that vote, but I just don't get the comment.

See this thread - Curiosity

i got the same thing with a very very low vote accompanying it, what the???

I've voted on all the entries, I'm not going to attempt to comment most of them this time however. I've already seen quite a few that are nowhere near accidental and there'd be no point in saying that over and over. There are a few that stand out to me though, I may have to drop a nice comment to go with the high score. My own score is abysmal, thanks to the curse of posting it here after the first vote.

I've had that baghead =] comment on all 3 of my current challenge entries, it's not particularly helpful but at least it's not a =[

I got the same =] thing. I wasn't sure what that person gave me but i know it was somewhat low.

Hmm. I think this image is better than the score says (I know no one else ever says that, right?). Still waiting for a useful comment that will tell me what I overlooked this time ::settles in to wait::

"The shape of letters can be found in nature and in other objects. Create an interesting photograph containing something which has the shape of a letter but wasn't intended to be one."

You just confirmed/emphasized LadyTara's point. :-) Bold in quotes added by me.

I disagree.

While the title gives the impression that it has to be found, the description says nothing of the sort.

I don't know specifically which photos she is referring to because I haven't voted yet, but I was just trying to point out the fact that the description says "take a photograph of something which has the shape of a letter" and not "take a photograph of a found object/scene that has the shape of a letter".

You're leaving off the rest of the description: "...but wasn't intended to be one." It's all one sentence. That also works with the 'Accidental' part in the challenge title.

Let me explain.

Let's say you chose a hockey stick as your object because you think it looks like the letter "L". Do you have to take a photo of this object in it's natural setting (ex: a sporting goods store). No. You could take this hockey stick, and shoot it in the studio, and this would still follow the rules because you are still "Creating an interesting photograph containing something which has the shape of a letter but wasn't intended to be one"

The hockey stick wasn't intentionally created to look like an "L". It was created for the purpose of shooting an passing a puck.

Not cross-checking or spearing. That's why those are Penalties ;]

Anyway, I completely agree with what you said. But maybe we're treading on this ice. Sorry … I guess I need a life.

I was merely trying to open up the possibility that there is more than one way to interpret the challenge.

I think I've made my point and will end my discussion here.

No regrets. Did we come up with some common ground?

Ok, agreed. That 'L' is certainly one instance of an Accidental letter. :-) It "...has the shape of a letter but wasn't intended to be one".

Wow, hanging with the Doc! Wish you could make the trip up to Seattle this weekend for the "going away" Seattle GTG Jason. Anyway, keeping up with the thread......

As much as I used to ask for comments, I am starting to get amused by the "=]" comments. I have gotten 2 of those in past 2 days in two different challenges. No offense to the one who is making them, but they are more like teasers:-) (or should I put "=]" here instead?.. heheh )
