Blood, lipstick, ketchup...
(Perhaps present all three.)

A simple desaturate or convert to black and white or the equivalent will do. For more control, you can split the channels (red, green and blue) with a channel mixer layer, and vary the intensity of each channel. General rule is that all three channels should add up to 100%. It's an oft broken rule, of course, but a good starting point. Also remember that the blue channel typically has the most noise, the green channel the least.

I'm not a CS3 user, but I would say "yes" as long as it's applied in Normal mode. |

Using Bvy's tips I spent 5 minutes using the channel mixer to turn this;
into this;
I really like the way it gave me more control in bringing out the markings on the apples. Thanks for the hints :)

Not only can you -- you must convert it somehow. A simple desaturate or convert will do, but there are other ways that give you more control. Read on... |

I could take a b&w pic of my hair but those who don't really know me wouldn't get it, hehe. I have a lot of ideas for this but some good ones for Bummer too, I'm a bit torn.
