Didn't see him on IM today. Wondered if he's having to evacuate due to Ike. Anybody else heard from him?

He should be on. I see him. I give him a shout for you Jason.
He could be perparing his departamental evac plans. Many companies are in that mode right now. Houston is slowly becoming chaotic. I am staying and riding this one out. Houston will get the hurricane, but the Galveston folks will get it really bad,

Oh right now , outside its beautiful. I am thinking after the storm (If my house is still standing lol) I will head out to Galveston and photograph the area. That is if they let me in.

I just heard on the radio that they are asking people to leave Galveston.

Oh, they are not asking. They are demanding now. Its a mandatory evac for Galveston and some areas of Houston. My county hasnt annouced any evac yet. I figured if they do, it will be too late. Im staying put. Traffic is already horrible.

Our thoughts are with you all :)

Our offices down there are shutting down as of tonight except IT is freaking out as all our critical servers are down there so if there is a power loss the UPS backups will provide power only for a shot bit... lol

Please take care all of you. Our thoughts are with you all.

We're all OK so far, thanks Doc.

Looks like it is heading right for us. We are getting ready - batteries, water, food.

We will probably start putting the plywood up tonight.

I'll keep you guys updated.

David, If you need new plywood, go tonight. I was just helping my neighbor secure his windows and the Lowe's near us was almost out.

Thanks all for your thoughts.

One of the few times in my life I've planned ahead, I got plywood 2 years ago during non-hurricane season.

We're waiting until tomorrow to make the call on the plywood. A couple of neighbors and I will help each other out.

Thanks though, let me know if you guys lose electricity, you can hang out here if we're still on - or vice versa.

Hopefully it's all for naught.

I'll be keeping in eye on you guys...my comment to Jamie to come to Dallas may not be that great, lol. (They are thinking we could even lose power from the storm based on the projection of the eye's journey.

BUT...if ya wanna come to Dallas, do it now! I've heard they may be doing the highway thing where all lanes go one way!

Keep us posted. It's going to be rough no matter what!

The guys on one of the news channels said "the state of Texas is 700 miles wide - this STORM is 700 miles wide!" I'm thinkin' every one is going to be wet and windy for a bit. Stay safe!!

They just announced that only 3 gas stations with gas in our county and all supermarkets will be closed tomorrow. Which makes sense since most are empty

Dave if you or anyone needs help with anything give me a shout

Jaime

My sisters both live in Clear Lake. They are boarded up the windows, and are now just hoping for the best.
Storm is now going strait over Galveston.
I feel guilty about not helping them, but there is no way I could get back to my house in NW Houston.
Traffic just would not allow it.
This should be a wild ride.
Stay safe everyone in Ike's way !!

I have lived in S Florida for over 50 years, and have seen what bad hurricanes can do to our best constructed places. I hope that everyone in Ike's way will take precautions and also will not do anything crazy like driving around during the storm. It's amazing how a hurricane, in just a few hours, can change your whole environment forever .
Also, be careful for wires, weakened trees and nails all over when it is past. I wish I was able to lend a couple of generators to some of you.
I would like for everyone to check in once in a while, or whenever services are restored, so that we will know that you are ok.
My thoughts are with you all.

Houstonians, this is probably the least of your worries right now but perhaps you should send in your raw files for the challenge that ends on Sunday. Being from South Florida I know that you may end up with no electricity and or internet access for days after the storm has passed. Another tip from a floridean, you will never regret having a small generator, best prices at Costco. Good luck to you all.
