Well, mine was an experiment. A different kind of shot for me, and I have my answer.

Very disappointing, but still early enough where things may right themselves.

Mine was a complete accident. Found it yesterday while looking through the shots I took this month and thought it had some potential. Eight different edits until I got the look I wanted and I have my answer. (Which is "Stop thinking so hard and just shoot!")

WOOT!?!?! *recording this because I'm shocked* 5.9 !

I'm wondering. Do a majority of people vote in Free Studies like they would in regular challenges, or do they take a different voting pattern for them? For me, I'd think that I'd change a little bit due to the nature of the challenge. I get a feeling that people are voting like they would a regular challenge, in that they vote according to the other photos that they see in the challenge (Voting up or down based on how good other photos in the challenge are), but I can't know this for sure of course.

So I can imagine this has been talked to death before, but which is it? Do people tend to vote like regular challenges, or do they try their best to 'judge' each photo on its own merits? Understanding this could really help in future Free Studies. I came into this one kind of expecting people to take each photo individually, but I'm thinking I was wrong.

I've observed that voting in Free Studies is harsher than in Member challenges, which in turn is harsher than open challenges. The same image that places 50th in a FS could be top 10 in a Member challenge and could be #1 in an open challenge. There are just seems to be a larger number of higher quality images in Free Studies, and so it takes more to catch the average voter's attention.

So, I try to judge each photo on its merits, but my votes are inevitably influenced by the other images that are fresh in my head. Having said that, there are still better Free Study months and worse Free Study months as a whole, so it seems that voters overall are somewhere in between.

Well, had I suspected that what I thought were interesting characteristics are being taken as glaring flaws. I was right, but so far, the only commenter liked it. I really think my photography has improved, but you would not know it from my scores here.

Much like how last month went. Maybe it can make a second half push to get back to 7 like the last one almost did.

I am thinking I should have entered the wildlife shot I had in for this challenge...and then took it out with 10 minutes to go and put something else in....

5.29...ouch.

5.7, cooooooh.

I'd have much preferred being at 5.4 after 16 votes and climbed to 6.4 throughout the day than watching my score fall. That said am still pleased with it and maybe it will climb a little tonight :)

Sounds like a nice simple cut and paste method to get yourself to 100% commenting.

For whatever reason one decides to do so.

We all have our reasons.

I can't wait for mine.
