My current photo is running at 4.7ish
How would this one have done? Any better?
Title: Exploring Your Inner Wheel

Dont worry about sugar coating your comments the more honest the better.
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately the main focus isn't on the wheel. You have to look for it. The main focus seems to be on the axle. The shininess of the metal keeps your eyes from finding the wheel.

Otherwise the contrast and duotone is excellent so I probably would give it a "7"

nice pic, but i would agree that the topic of wheel is not well represented in the pic - so you'd get a few demerits for it. Nice exposure/contrast/sharpening and focus.

Thanks for making me feel better. My wheels shot is at 4.88 (been dropping from a high of 5.3 since voting started.)

with each new challenge I am learning...to like low scores. LOL

I would rate this a 7 or so, BECAUSE the wheel is not the main focus, but it is in the shot. I tend to score shots like this a little higher than the norm for creativity. That is, as long as the challenge subject IS in the photo. (I'll have to see how many cat photos are in the wheels challenge) Nice work.

There's at least one cat photo in the wheels challenge. I came across it as I was browsing. I've still only voted on my obligatory 20% and commented only on 5% but the long weekend is still young.

Since this thread is not about comments and voting I'll get to your outttake:

As stated earlier by others the focus is not the wheel but doesn't really matter as long as the composition works. One thing that does bother me about the photo though is the shadow on the tire at the right. Is that yours or an onlooker?

Just for the sake of discussion, or to explain some of the voting 'methods', the rules state in bold print and I quote "While voting, users are asked to keep in highest consideration the topic of the challenge and base their rating accordingly.

This is the only mention on scoring/voting How To. There is bit on commenting, but nothing on how to 'rate' a pic.

It is well done, focus and exposure etc. but the wheels aspect is a little hard to grasp.

I agree with the others... I would as also cast a 6 or 7, but if you had put the wheel surface in the first plane, may be out of focus but letting you see the line drawing of the wheel (0 points for my english!) and having all the mechanism focused and occuping most of the place, then I would had raise my vote, as "strange point of view" of things make photos more interesting to me.

I can not understand how anyone could say that this isn't entirely about a wheel (ya, ya. I'm in a minority of 1). You do not think "sheep" when you view it. Many of the wheels posted had an axle -- fairly common for a wheel. So look at that motorcycle that got 2nd place. The pic is about a lot of things, and only very minimally about a wheel. Folks like bikes and they like action and they like fast things photographed -- and it isn't even done well. The tire is off the ground -- big hoot. Every rider there did that stunt.

I would have counted this as "in bounds" as well. Ten13's "7" score is about where I'd place it as well. I like the focus and detail, and the B&W choice is perfect.

i agreed with grdSavant. Just be confident with what you have in mind. But prepare to accept critique later on. :) <-- kill me, stab me, punch me, kick me! does not matter, just give me a comment!

oh forgot, i would rate 9 for you.. because of the shadow on the wheel.

how i do vote everytime? as long as nice picture (in focus, good contrast, and etc.) and i am in a good mood while i am doing the voting :)
