I was quite surprised to pick up my old hometown newspaper today. I learned that one of the people who were killed in Fallujah, Iraq, last week was a guy a went to school with.

You probably saw the photos in the newspaper of the guys being hung from bridges, while kids rejoiced in the streets. Well, he would have been one of the four people killed in that attack. I don't know whether he was one of the two that were hung from the bridges.

I was just quite surprised that I knew one of these poor people (Michael Teague) -- I had been looking at those newspaper stories, and reading about editors' decisions on whether or not to print the grisley images just a few days ago. What a world...

It was a horrendous sight; there are many different factions of people in Iraq, who knows if true peace will ever arrive? Sorry such a thing happened to you friend Alan.

That's sad. Sorry to hear that. And for what? Oil and nothing else. Anyone who doesn't see this is either delusional or in denial. Innocent lives being lost because they have no choice but follow the orders of their leader.

I found out today that one of the soldiers killed Sunday was a 1999 graduate of the high school at which I work. It really hit us hard, even those of us who didn't have him in class or know him. He has a daughter at the Pre-K campus...it's just so very sad. I support the soldiers, the war effort in and of itself, and even the fact that an increasingly unpopular government is having to make increasingly unpopular decisions in order to end oppression and hate. Whether people are for or against our president, we must all understand that his is a job that no one in their right mind would ever really want to have (since 9/11 anyway), and we have to respect the fact that those who have been elected by popular vote are the ones in power and are the experts...not us as the armchair quarterbacks.

We love the American People and The American soldiers but as for your President that’s another story! He is after oil and his own interests, no weapons of mass destruction were ever found and yet he’s still got you all there! I am sorry for the loss of innocent life on both sides.

I know I may get criticized for this, but the foreign armies should just pull out and let the locals blow each other up. Why sacrifice precious lives and lose loved ones for people who have been at each others throats for centuries? It's so sad :(

I don't understand. The innocent lives were civilians helping to deliver food and medical supplies, no evil "leader" involved. (at least not on our side)

true it may be for oil, but the USA is SO heavily dependant on it today, we need it and if fighting for it is the only way to get it then so be it. But also remember the insane leader of the country our troops are in, is that leader out of power now?

You show me another way we can live with out the oil we get from the middle east and we can start using your way TOMORROW, I will be all for pulling the troops out of Iraq the vary same day and never send them back. I was there in 1991 and would gladly go back if I wernt to old today.

If you dont realize it, which Im ure you do, but MANY MANY products are made from crude oil besides fule for cars and other transportation.

Until we are NOT dependant on oil from the middle east the US MUST intervene, if not, I hope you enjoy walkig to work and to the store

it is sad for the loss of life that goes on in any war.

sorry for sounding so one way and hars, but many people get soley focued on one idea and dont see the BIG picture

If it was all about oil...why do these gas prices keep going up?!
BeagleBoy-I agree. F em! Totally close down US borders. FIngerprints to get in and out. Stop assisting every other counry in the world and take care of our own. Does that solve it?
One other thing. thnk about who Saddam. Al Quada, and all terrorists want to run this country. Now...choose the other guy. They don't want Bush in because he has shown he is not going to back down. and I am an Independent, not NO ring wing type.

Please give us good warning so that we can turn it into beer and process it for you, you can have it after we are finished!LOL. There is only so much our bladders can hold!So supply may be limited.
Two SUV`s for every driveway!!
Fighting Al Quada and terrorists is good, interferring in other countrys affairs quite another. No doubt the US has helped more third world countries with aid than any other. Who helped bring Saddam to power years ago??

Quit being stupid by saying the US is stealing oil. WHERE IS THE OIL LINE?

btw If your leader becomes a mass murderer, consider yourself warned.

Umm.. Bill Clinton was our last president actually elected - not selected - and WITH the popular vote.

With all that has come out lately, it has become painfully obvious to me that if he were in fact reelected for a third term, not only would we not be in Iraq, but 9/11 most likely would not have ocurred either. :(

Having a finger on a tap that holds much of the worlds supply makes other OPEC nations notice and therefore effects price. We are not all idiots

Lets not start that whining again with the vote counts. If it went the other way it would be perfectly fine, now wouldn't it? We are a democratic society, and the populr vote is just a part of the process, doesn't always mean you win.
Of course we wouldn't be in Iraq. We would still be waiting for the UN resolutions to be fulfilled.
And how long into Bushs' term did 9/11 occur. It was coming, and Bush had nothing to do with it. Must have been CLinton then, by reasonable deduction (8 years?)

I would buy a bigger truck if we could! I like the walk to work statement, at about 25 miles each way I am sure that I would be in much better shape!!

While I'm all for the political discussions, let's have some respect for Alan and others and take the left/right bashing to another thread. Just seems kinda disrespectful to me. Flame away. :-)
