I really haven't used it...and looks like it's now going to a pay per year thing.

You can find me on Flickr as marc.benton. My favorite groups over there are The Upgraders (thanks to YoSpiff), Canon PowerShot S5 IS, DCIst Photos, and one I'll be launching soon for antique and collectibles enthusiasts at WorthPoint.

Thanks for the plug for my group and for jogging my memory. I completely forgot to put you on the list. You are there now.

I am EricBJones on Flickr. I have a lot of the same stuff over there as I have my website, but I also have been playing with retouching photos on Flickr.

I do have an account as I am a Yahoo user. I only posted some pics of one party and a wushu martial arts I took part in. I am considering upgrading to the pro account mostly to push myself to organize my tons of pics, promote a bit my microstock work, share with friends etc. I also do travel quite a lot an most of the pictures are still on my HDD or backed up cd-s.

Reading this post I almost made my mind to sign up. Any other pros or cons not to do it?

Here is my account (though nothing interesting there) zambet which means smile in Romanian.

Thnx all and Happy New Year

Edit: My Dutch friend also mentioned that it does not sound good @ all in Dutch :)

It's not a backup storage service, and I don't think they ever make that claim. I could be wrong.

I've made over $2500 from sales of photographs directly related to people finding my stuff or me on Flickr. Proper tagging does wonders.

I'm not sure of the negatives, but the forums aren't nearly as engaging as on other sites.

But then you'll start trying to get on Explore, and you're done for. It's a damn popularity contest, don't let it get to you.

Thank you wavelength.

I do not intend to use it as a back up storage but for organizing my pics and keep me working on the pics.

Can you please detail how you made the money.

Regards,

Tibi

It was random really, and possibly a little bit of luck and prayer were needed :) But, I can tell you that without tagging and adding pictures to certain groups, I would not have been in a position to receive said attention.

The one that made me the most was quite unexpected to me.
This picture:

It was first sold to a publishing company for a book cover on I Love Dirt

Then, the New York State parks service contacted me to use it on a park map. Since the first contract was non-exclusive, I was able to sell the picture again.

The other photos that were sold to an advertising agency weren't on my flickr, but they found other photos of Kansas City and were looking for a particular section of KC. Namely, they were looking for Kansas City, Kansas. Nobody ever goes there, and it's not picturesque. So we took a trip, during full daylight, to the area and got some pictures (what I could, anyways) for them to use in a corporate presentation for a Casino Company. I ended up selling four pictures, and effectively made $1600 for one day of work.

Since then things have been dry, but I've scaled back on my photography in the last year, with the last six months being insane and I lived half in Poland and half in the US. Also, I almost never take the time to tag anymore, so theres that also.

Anyways, it's just an added benefit, not something you can count on. If you want to do full-time stock, loo into a site like Alamy.
