Woah..I can feel the hate! :-)

Woke up this morning and my poor, defenseless photo is getting HAMMERED...yeah!!!!

It was interesting. Had quite a few subjects to choose from but I seemed to have entered the worst of the lot. Ain't that the way. :-) I like something a lot of folks hate it. I'll be lucky to break a 5...coool :-O

Here are my other shots I didn't entershadow outakes

Hate isn't almost a 5..lol

Woke up this morning to a 3.56 and 25 votes...I think I'm heading for the mountains today....maybe city life will come to me sometime this week.

Actually.. I don't think I'm checking my score again till Thursday...I'm on vacation :)

Same here Hokie.... I am getting hammered although I believe this to be one of the best photos I have EVER taken. I loved it so much, but obviously I am the only one who sees it that way.

Me too. Folks aren't digging mine so much, and the thing that kills me is that at least a couple of the comments are suggesting things I went back and forth on for HOURS. Wrong choices, I guess!

scoot over, i'm joinin' the gettin' hammered club too ;o
hokie, i LOVE in the rough and a moment of balance

Hokie! I think you are very creative. Loved the golfer and gabriel, esp.! :-)

I'm getting hammered too - 30 votes for 2.9. The one comment suggests the title may have alternate meanings than I intended.
Oh, and Hokie, I like that Feather pic in your outtakes.

hokie, polarized is awesome. actually, they are all good. but polarized is the best. :)

btw, loved your asphalt mirage, was in my top 3.

Since we are lamenting over what we should have entered, here are my out takes for the shadow challenge.

No, you're not. It's brilliant. I want a print of it (seriously).

Forgive my ignorance, but how do you check your current score? I've looked all over but haven't been able to find it. Knowing me, it's probably in big block letters on the fromt page. lol

Miller,

Go to the preferences tab and make sure that you have checked the little box that says Current Challenge Statistic. The current score will appear on your home page.

I find that when I have a lot of different ideas it becomes difficult to focus on squeezing the most from one shingle photo.

I actually had "Polarized" entered up until Sunday afternoon. "Gabriel" was my first photo I took for this challenge but as the days wore in the week other ideas came on. I then did "A moment of balance" and the two "Blob" photos. "Polarized" was done late last week and I thought it was a very good technical photograph and would appeal to other photographers. "In the rough" was done Sunday afternoon after I purchased a brass golf figurine for my dad for Fathers day. I got a few ideas from that and gave him the figurine and a framed photo.

My entry this week was chosen by my daughter and my wife as their favorite. The shadows were the weakest in this one but technically it is as good as any of the others and has a nice effect that when seen in a 8x10 format (magazine style) it really is quite beautiful.

I am just glad I had some different ideas to choose from and I learned a lot this week for sure.

Curtains and Haytire are very good. I wanted to do a shot like curtains as I really like the way blinds put shadows on objects. Haytire is that elusive natural shot I don't do enough of but I like.

I was just telling my wife I need to do more nature/surrounding shots.

I like seeing the outakes a lot. It gives me a better sense of what people are doing during the week with their photography and how their thought processes work.

Ahh... thanks for the info BAMartin. 6.067. Not too bad for my first photo, I guess.

I'm getting hammered too Hokie and my entry is my very best ever. Should be getting all 8's n 9's. I think it is the best of the group. Just shows how STUPID some of these voters are. (ha)

For once, I stayed awake for the challenge to start and right off the bat I had 3 votes with an average of 2. It's up to 4.1 with 30 votes but I still can't believe it's doing as poorly as it is. I don't expect it to do great but not this bad.

Well... my photo is at around 4.5-4.6, which is where I am nearly every week. It's really different to my usual photos, and my friends thought it was boring, especially compared to my first idea which turned out so grainy. But somehow I'm beating a lot of you guys! Boring wins, I guess.

Maybe one day I'll score over 5. But probably not with this camera :)

I like the grain in your pic lisae. works for me. There are two stunning photos this week, one simple, one more complex. A lot of effort as been applied to all the photos. good work guys.

I''d love to score higher, and I will on the next pic. This one isn''t bad enough for a 2.9, but it was an SotM shot. Here''s my **edit** outakes (link removed for the current time. repost after the challenge). The main alternate was 0597, which is really cute cropped down.

Hey, I like that one a lot. It feels like 'hair cut' :) I think the grainyness in that one works well, but you're probably right that some voters would be bothered by it.

This might be one of the best (for sure most creative( photos I've *ever* submitted. Which is probably why it's getting a 3.9, lol.

Here are a few of my non-submits. Comments welcome : ) >.

alien plasma
farscape
it's an epiphone
something's waiting
the lilypads

Also: hokie, all of your outtakes are amazing. the abstraction of the gabriel pic is tooo cool. how was that done? I also think that polarized might have won the contest.

BAMartin: the curtain image is very nice.

I liked Fang but I missed on the focus.

Ebola is kind of interesting, but not really all that exciting.

I had a few others that I thought might be contenders, but my brand new camera broke and ate them all up :(

Don't look at my gallery if you don't want to see the picture I ended up submitting. Consider yourself warned :P

couldn't you just wait posting your submission until after the voting? i love seeing other people's outtakes but i really value the anonymity in the voting, too ...

In theory. But y'all aren't the only people I share these photos with. Pbase is by far the most convenient way I've found to share a photo or group of photos with a bunch of people. And so in the course of getting 'pre-feedback' from other friends and non-dpchallenge members, I put the photos up.
