Hello all. I've happened on a few inexpensive OM lenses and am curious if anyone has any experience using them on an Oly DSLR. I'm basically looking for solutions on the cheap for acquiring faster lenses than the f/3.5 I have. Thanks for any feedback!

Be ready for soft images that lack contrast. Portraits are awesome with OM lenses. I use a 50mm f1.4 and I love it for ports.

Original Olympus adaptor

OM Lenses, lots of info

And of course you have Wrotniak. May find some good info here.

Good thread. I've been trying to do researchon this topic too. I was thinking of getting a 50mm BEFORE I broke my 50-200 (which is supposed to cost at least $300 to fix! yipes!). Do you guys know if there are any good OM Zoom lenses for the Oly? I may just wait and see if people are unloading their 50-200's now since the SWD came out (but most likely I am just gonna bite the bullet and get mine fixed).

Oh, Jac, could you post some pics that you've taken with that lens? I'd love to see how things look with it.

I only had one OM lens when I had my E1/300/500, the 50mm f3.5 macro. It worked quite well. I used a ton of Nikon and M42 lenses all with mostly good to excellent success. You will find that a lot of older lenses produce more CA than newer designs, but that is easily corrected in PS. Of course you are looking for faster glass, which shouldn't be a problem, but some slower lenses are hard to focus on the matt screens. Split-prism screens are available for most bodies.

edit to add...

Fantastic guys and gals. Thanks so much for the great info! I think I'll invest in a good portrait lens.

I just purchased the Olympus MF-1 OM Adapter as well as the Olympus OM 50mm f 1.8 prime lens. I saw loads of sample pics taken with the lens and read good things about it. I am looking forward to testing it out and hopefully using it in upcoming challenges.

I have an Olympus E-520 and I'm actually excited about the fact that I will have to manually focus and work harder to get great shots with this lens. After all, I didn't buy this camera to point and shoot (I have to stop myself from using the Auto setting all the time!) but to learn how to "make" great creative photos.

I have to say, I love using my OM 50mm f/1.4 on my e-1 and E-3 :)
