I knwo theres a name for it.

Its a contraption you make where lets say, you have a marble rolling on a plank, it falls into cup that tips over, as it tips over it hits switch which operates a little crane, that dumps sand into a box on a scale, as the box fills with sand the scale does something else, and so on

I think what you are describing is called a "Rube Goldberg" machine. There use to be a cartoon in the Sunday comic section that would have one of these drawn out and told how ir worked so you could follow the action

Yep. Rube is a hero of mine. I think he designed the modern photocopier. (Actually, it was Chester Carleton, but he must have been a close relative of Rube!)

If you have the time this is the one to view for its ingenuity and cleverness. Wait for the chessboard part, fantastic execution.

Zip Line Woody! Loved it!

That vid reminds me of when I was a kid and my parents left me alone in the house for long periods of time. >:)

Ah, I know what you mean. I think it's called KoroKoro Kakuri. I'll check it later. There are compilation videos available of the NHK bits.

Well, the actual programme name on NHK that kolasi is after is "Pita Gora Switch" and the marble segment is "PitaGora Souchi". (The penguin characters are called Pita and Gora. "Souchi" is "device, contraption".)
Page in Japanese here. ;-Þ

That one, if what I once read on the Internet is true, was actually constructed using only standard parts from an Accord.

That is correct. It was all accord parts, except there are some parts that aren't really physically true. The tires for one...

Interesting, I always thought it was a play on words, pythagoras switch. I didn't realize that the characters were named Pita and Gora as well.

Yes, it is a play on the words Pythagoras Switch, as Pythagoras is known as "Pitgorasu" in Japanese. ;-Þ

Reminds me of a game called Mouse Trap (image). It required a lot of setup and didn't always operate without error, but it was fun.

I'm assuming that's a PC version (ZIP file) -- any idea if it has any spyware attached or anything?
