Lights........ looks like you have a few lenses already to play with.....unless you already have lights LOL then I don't know!

Glass is great but you do have some lenses to work with and you will need to get lights some time.

Lights will open up greater creative opportunities. The glass addiction will never stop but at least you will already have the lights to work with when you get that next lens.

There is this basic rule... On a photo forum if you ask should I buy x or y, the answer is always x,y and z... stop asking is the cheapest way ;-)

How much of your photg is studio type of deal? A crappy lens with good light is better then a good lens with bad light. However, if you are most a landscape person, then those AB's are not going to help most of the time :-) If you want my address to mail them to, then lights cause I have been into the strobist thing for a while and that would be more useful to me (which is the only person I can answer for) :-) No help I guess...

Get a 50mm lens to fill the gap and 1 light and a good reflector.

Just another option. I find I use my softbox with a reflector the most. The other strobe and umbrella hardly get used. Unless I use the umbrella as a reflector.

you will prob get far more use from the lens :P

*edit Im considering a 24-105 used right now but it has teh tinyest chip in the front glass right in the middle and not sure if would show up in shots... its about 1/2mm in size...

No kidding. It keeps going and going and going....

I have a Speedlight EX2 but I know the things some nice strobes can do. :)

just get one AB, a reflector, and 50 1.4 to fill in the focal range gap.

Just get the lens 24-105!!

Wow... that's a toss up based on your lens collection. I bought an entire AB package, but then ended up getting the 24-105 specifically for studio work with the lights (it filled the lens-gap for me).

It looks like you're pretty darned comfortable with your 85mm in the studio, so I'd say go with the lights.

Don't buy either of them. Save your money. Pretty soon you'll have enough for both. By then you'll want a different lens and/or lights. :D

I could never buy a lens with a chip. any sized chip. I'd sit and stare at every shot, at every possible magnification, swearing there was something wrong. Finally they'd just lock me up in a dark cell somewhere because people would be sick of me asking "do you see that?"

I wouldn't buy a lens with a chip either but you may be surprised about what doesn't show up...

I was driving home from Bishop and was using my 70-200mm f/4 to take pictures of various things on the way home...There was a huge bird poop on the windshield and I was shooting right through it, focusing on things way past it and only a very vague image of the poop would show up in the pictures...it was almost unnoticeable and just a shadow.

Now if a huge bird poop didn't show up in the pictures, I really don't think a small chip would cause much of anything.

ETA: I read somewhere that you can tear off a small piece of post-it notes and stick it to your lens and take pictures and it won't even show up. Never tried it but I believe it because of my experience. I guess the chip in the lens is why I always use a multi-coated filter on the lens to prevent bad accidents.

I don't see a mid range lens in your listings. The 24-105 is good, the 24-70 2.8 is also good - and a very tough choice between the two.

Perhaps check out interfit stellar 300ws kit from B&H. As much power as teh AB800 but prices at the AB400 level and just as good.

But if you get strobes, then you'll need a meter and want PWs to work untethered, then you'll want a bigger umblrella and bigger softboxes...it's kind of like your first L lens, you get this disease that never ends!
