I need advice for slideshow software.

I want to prepare a slideshow with music for my parents' 40th wedding anniversary.

I need something that's not too expensive (free would be even better) and pretty easy to use.

Any suggestions would be greatly appeciated!

Thanks

Lightroom is the program i use for slideshows, i know you could import a soundtrack in it as well. And once you rate your pictures, you determine the speed of the slideshow, the fades, the background color, titles. Its a bit hard to grasp at the beginning, but with time it makes it worth it. good luck

Lightroom doesn't allow you to export with music nor does it have the ability to create a dvd.

If you use photoshop, you can create a slideshow from there (PS Elements anyway).

PS Premiere Elements is what I use to create slideshows.

I've tried a few of the free ones, some are quite limited in what you can control.

I have used ProShow by Photodex. This allows you to create slide show, add a sound track and save the out put in various forms. You can create a VCD/DVD so, it can be played on a comerical DVD Plaver, or as an exe to play on a computer, and you can create an auto running CD to play on a computer.

Maybe they're fixing it in v2. At the moment you can't export at all in v2. It just hangs.

I just did a family reunion slide show (a few thousand scans of old photos and WWII correspondence) in iDVD '06 (Mac only; it came free with new Macs and was cheap on its own as part of iLife). I had never done one before--I'd only exported video with chapters from iMovie into iDVD and made DVDs.

It was quite easy; I only had to check the documentation a couple of times and the rest was obvious. I didn't even have to use iPhoto--I just dragged photo folders right from the Finder into iDVD.

I didn't take the trouble to label or comment each image. I did one version with fade transitions between slides and it took a looooong time to render (my preference is to save the project as a disc image rather than writing live to a DVD). The same show with no transitions was incredibly quicker to crunch.

The result looks great on the TV, and should be a fun view at the upcoming reunion.

PS: I also have iLife '08 but after hearing what they did to iMovie, I haven't tried the current iDVD yet...
