Some horrible person broke into my car the other night and stole my stereo and my beloved Sony F717. Here in the near future, the insurance company will settle and I should get a fairly decent check to replace my stuff with. What would you suggest? I really like the 717, but my friend has a 300D and it is very nice too and so versatile.

717, 828, D300, or something I haven't yet considered?

Sorry to hear that your camera got stolen.. :( Well, if you have invested in memory sticks its best to stick with Sony.

Sorry to hear that, at least it's insured. Perhaps time to make a move up do DSLR? ;-)

300D and D70 are interesting cameras... but if you already have an investment in Sony gear (memory sticks, TTL flash, etc) then perhaps another F717 or F828 may be better alternatives.

The memory sticks and most everything were in the bag, so I only have the battery charger remaining from my beloved 717. I am really considering the 300D and a couple of lenses. A gig worth of CD is so much cheaper than a gig worth of mem stick, so I can save some money there and and spend more on cool stuff. Would anyone say NOT to buy a 300D?

Even my ancient Canon Pro70 produces a cleaner image than my Minolta Dimage 5 or my Fuji 6800Z. Canon's proprietary in-camera algorithms seem to produce a great image.
Too bad my old Pro70 is such lo-res, also doesn't include exif data.

I would seriously consider the Nikon D70 or the 300D. Get the one that you like the feel of the best.
