Allright so its time to start planing next years gtg
The place is Iceland the people are you guys!

So we were thinking about having it a landscape photography thingy, and would like to get peoples opinion on that
Ok so the plan could be to rent a bus and drive around the country and we could stay in cabins while we drive through places so it could be like a 2 or 3 day tour... not sure yet what do you think?
Need to know how many people are coming to get a group price on cabins and the bus

The plan could be like this:

Drive to Þórsmörk maybe stay a night there in a cabin its a big cabin for groups
also lots of shit to take pics of there, pretty place

then we can drive to jökulsárlón the glacier lagoon

then we can drive up to landmannalaugar its a cool place up in the highlands beautiful colors in the landscape there as you see here

there is also a big cabin therethat we could rent and this warm natural pool where people like to go with theyr beers in the nighttime

and the icecaves in Hrafntinnusker is not far away

So who is in and what do you think?

Wow - sounds terrific.

I visited Iceland a number of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I guess one of the big questions is what sort of cost would this work out at per head ?

I might be interested. Any ideas for how much it would cost?

I will be watching this thread.

Hmmm, Iceland has been on my travel wishlist for ages...

Questions:

I know you're talking about driving but can you give a rough idea of how much walking there would be at each location? I have arthritis in my hip and sometimes I can walk fine and other times it's a killer. So it would be good to know how far from the parking spots one needs to walk in order to find great scenes to photograph.

When you talk about renting the big cabins to sleep in, do you mean one huge room and everyone sleeps in sleeping bags on the floor or are there dormitory beds or are there lots of individual rooms? What about bathroom facilities? (I know it's not important to a lot of people but I don't know that I'm as up for that whole shared facilities thing as I used to be when I was younger and less creaky!)

Do you have any (very rough) ideas on dates and costs?

Ta Heida!

I'm certainly going to try to firm this one up. Yes, dates would help a lot and an idea of what might be a reasonable budget "per diem" for the time we are there. I just checked and the flight from my neck of the woods and expect to pay in the area of $2500 USD.

Now I just need to figure out which one of my body parts has any value in a pawnshop?? ;-)

I unfortunately missed the Calgary trip that just passed, but this would be a definite must on my to do list. Count me in. Also curious how we could fit in significant others into this trip.
Watching closely!

C'mon, I have the tar sands embedded in my Alberta culture and apparently in my lungs as well. Seriously though, the idea of quitting for something like this is a worthy and sensible reason, amongst all of the others worthy and sensible reasons as well. ;-)

I forgot to put the dates in there, I just talked to Gary and we thought we would stick to the first weekend in july, ofcourse spouses can come too its a great scenery to see, and walk around, well I the cabin in Landmannalaugar its a big space with beds so everybody just need to have sleeping bags , there are ofcourse showers and stuff there, also people can stay in tents but I thought it would be better if we were all together in cabins, and most places are near to the roads so people can walk as they feel upto, I just sent a mail to get an offer on the bus and cabin will let you know when I get an answer

I would like to be kept informed as well. Iceland is on my list of places to visit. Next year could work well. :)

OMG OMG OMG!!!

Count me in!

I'm in. Three days is kinda short for such a trip. Weather is extremely variable and we might hit 3 days of lousy weather and not be able to shoot anything.

From my June-July 2005 Trip:

An arm and a leg ;) A kidney would work too :)

I'm very interested. But I think it would have to be 5-7 days to make it worth while for me. I'll keep watching for more details.

Yeah...I'd have to agree. Its a bit of coin to fly over so we may as well make it worthwhile. Then again, 2-3 workshop stuff then a couple of days on our own is a possibility too.

Am I interested? Definitely. We'll see if I can afford it though.

eta: A quick look on travelocity for airfare. $2700 from Calgary with stop overs in Montreal, then New York.

The workshop and GTG will be 2 or 3 days, it doesn't mean you have to stay for only 2-3 days in Iceland, you can stay as along as you like, and I am sure you won't be the only one. I for one will stay for at least a week.

Good Lawd, I really really wanna go! I'll have to see what the prognosis is. If I plan one trip next year, I'd like it to be this.

Yeah... I might be interested but depends on costs & timeframe.

Edit: Damn... Just noticed my shirt changed colour and I cannot watch threads now.... Fixing that as we type....
