And mine was actually something that was upside down and I got told to flip it for additional points LOL :p

See, my first thought when I saw the results was, "Were people really that unimaginative?" People are constantly complaining about the challenge topics, but my view is that as a website as a whole, there's just not enough imagination or effort being applied. Upside down doesn't scream "mirror image" to me, and I think there's a huge amount of creativity that this challenge could have had, but was sadly lost among the mirror image shots. Now, next week, we'll probably get "symmetry" or some silly thing. lol.

I'm just at a loss to understand how flipping an image around so that the reflection is the right-side up is somehow more "upside down" than just leaving the shot the other way. Truly boggles my mind.

Relative to the rack of ribbons you have, I suppose that's true, but mine started and stayed in the low 4's. It was a low scoring challenge all around, for reasons I can't figure out. I saw a lot of creative entries, and only a handful of lame efforts. Maybe mine was lame effort.

I didn't get to finish voting but of the ones I did vote on these were my high scorers for Upside Down:

Thanks chromeydome, we must have similar tastes because I like a lot of your selections and agree LydiaToo's upside down turtle is pretty cool.

These photographs, along with the actual blue ribbon, were a few of my favorites of the challenge. Very different takes on the typical wildlife image.

Underrated.

There's others, but this one really jumped out as a beautiful image, with an artistic choice that failed to connect with the DPC community. Nicely done Robert ( Bear_Music)

Thank you for the recognition. What a great challenge chock full of excellent entries. I am very happy with the over all response to my entry. Thanks again. --Jim Roussos "jrjr"

I'm creating this thread to encourage people to show, week after week, challenge after challenge, their preferences for different photos than the ones winning DPC ribbons. I think it's important to give some visibility to other works not aligned with the mainstream taste, and give support to photographers with different views and approaches to photography.

So, after each challenge, you are encouraged to post here your personal winners, photos that did not won a DPC ribbon and are not align with the masses taste, but won your heart instead.

Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. Let’s show some.

A warm comment in a photograph can do a lot.
Jorge.

PS: Please notify the owner of every photograph posted here, and let him or her know about your support.

A great idea and one I fully support. I will be posting my personal winners soon.

How does this ribbon thing work?
I dont mean the regular dpchallenge ribbons but the other odd collection of ribbons I see in some member's portfolios. Stuff like red hands and blue hands and a plethora of other type's of ribbons and awards.
I'd appreciate someone to explain to me the workings of this and how they get awarded and /or nominated.

Read the first post in this thread. That really explains it all. You can then make up your own ribbons using your own critera to award them.
