Can some one explain this further please, I'm a little confuzzled by it :D

From what I can understand....you need to make one colour the main part of your image.....but you are not allowed to remove other colours from your image.

This challenge is going to force some creativity I think. I'm looking forward to the entries.

I anticipate a variety of umbrella shots. There's several other's out there with more isolated color highlighting the umbrella, but I couldn't find the one I was looking for. This is a nice shot, although may be too much color in other areas of the photo. ???

Ah yes I understand now.

A possible suggestion for the future could be a thumbnail next to the item descrption as an example image?

A nice thought, but oh so controversial! One person's idea of what meets the challenge is far from being applicable to everyone.

Exactly.. and when it comes to voting..if someones image wasn't like the thumbnail it would be DNMC

Well perhaps use diagram format i.e. some one draw it in paint.

I see they made the "no selective desat" a special rule, so you can get DQ'd for doing it. By stating that "any form" of selective desaturation is not allowed, I'm assuming this goes beyond just using selection tools to desaturate an image while leaving other parts in color. For example, I'm guessing this means you can't adjust (at least negatively) the saturation or luminance sliders in individual color channels, even if the effect is just to mute some colors rather than converting them fully to grayscale.

Which, if any, of the techniques at this tutorial can we use?

I'd say none for this challenge with the special rules.

So a question for SC....

Are we precluded from using any tools such as hue/ saturation and selective colors and curves to emphasize a color relative to the others?

Or are we just not allowed to desaturate a color all the way to zero?

Extra Rules: Selective desaturation in post-processing is not allowed, in-camera desaturation/selective color tools are not allowed
I think this is the answer.

I think this is the answer.

Didn't sound like bassbone was asking about desat, he's inquiring about a saturation increase - I think.

My question is: Can ANY color adjustment tool be used including a tool that allows increase in saturation?

I understand the rule about selective desaturation being dissallowed here, but what about selective saturation increase?

I'd say that the selective color part of the rule would come into play. But that's only my opinion.

Why not rely on strong composition and good choice of subject instead - seems the easier option to me!

I still would like to know whether accentuating your main subject by slightly desaturating everything else would be illegal?

To giv an example, going back to an old one of mine (I realise this subject wouldn't qualify as a point of colour, but go with me here):

I desaturated everything around the girl by about 10 using the HSL control. But I hope you'll agree, there is clearly colour present. Are we saying these editing steps would be illegal for this challenge full stop? Or does it depend upon the extent to which you've done it, to be aujudicated by SC on a case-by-case basis?

I realise the rest of us members all have our opinions but can somebody from SC to give an opinion please?

This one should be fun. A good start for the DPC Olympics.

Olympics uses just the Open challenges, whereas Point of Color is a Members Only challenge.

The Extra Rules for the challenge say "Selective desaturation in post-processing is not allowed" -- nothing ambiguous about it. So yes, that would be illegal.

Barry, I know it's not your point, but if I was voting on my own photo I'd say it has much more than a "spot" of and therefore doesn't meet the challenge for that reason.

Hey! When did the challenge description change? I thought it read like this: "Capture an image where a point of color is the main subject. No sort of selective desaturation allowed!"

Where does it say "spot"? :-)
