Well, I submitted the final draft of my PhD thesis to my Prof yesterday for review (the last step before final submission and then my viva/defense) and I am now a free man until July 10th when we meet to discuss any revisions.

Sooooo....I can finally pick up my camera again and go out and do Stuff™ without feeling ridiculously guilty - and in fact the time until the 10th July is officially guiltless loafing time :)

Anyone want to hook up and go shooting seeing as I'm now a temporary man of leisure? Have bike and can travel (M25 or nearish London preferred). Alternatively, any ideas on good stuff to go shoot?

Dude, congratulations! I know what's like...although not a the PhD level. I haveto write my master's thesis now, but I finished my classes and feel like going out and taking photos :)

Hope you have fun :)

Hi Nick, I was thinking of taking an early morning trip over to Richmond park at some weekend in the nearish future. Glad to hear you have a bit of free time on your hands.

Well, if you're thinking of taking the little trip (just two stops from Queensland to Picadilly on the through-the-centre-of-the-earth line), you will remember to take your camera, won't you?

I really wish I'd been here for the Anglo-Oz meet a few months ago - the photo from the day out all look great and couldn't have been further away from the weather we had that miserable day in March I think!

Simms - I'd love to meet up in Richmond sometime, although maybe not early morning...I'm sooo bad at the mornings...although I did think about going down to Wimbledon to shoot the overnight queuers, but there's no more camping on the pavement apparently....it's all 'proper' in the park now?

Judi - I wish I'd not missed so many FSM entries but c'est la vie. I've got one fabulous shot from Queen's Day in Dam but that's about it for shooting for the past 3 months. My wife Deb suggested I leave the camera at home, which I couldn't do, so I did the next best thing and left my tripod...and it worked well enough to put me off from shooting when I should have been writing :)

Smyk - good luck with the Masters thesis. If it's any consolation I wrote mine in 7 days from start to finish and still managed to get a distinction for it. Whatever subject it is, the best advice I can give is the advice my prof has been beating into my head for the past 4 years: "why this, why now". Use that as a mantra for EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE YOU WRITE. Why this, why now. It keeps your writing focussed on making and supporting positions/points and limits the waffle/unneccessary crap. Try it - it works :)

It's good to be back...and better yet there's amazing sun today. Gonna exercise my underused annual zoo pass and go shoot some fish in a barrel to warm up again :)

EDIT: p.s. WHERE'S MY FRACKIN' REVISED 5D/5DS/7D? It has to be Photokina in August no?
