I just got an e-mail from the marketing head at Zaxby's restaurants - they have 380+ locations in the south. They want to use my rooster photo in each of their locations. I have no idea how to go about pricing. Is a one-time royalty fee better, or is it better to charge by print? I don't want to price myself out of getting this, but I also want to make sure I charge what I should.

I personally would charge by print, since it is so many locations. You could give them your normal charge for the size they want and maybe give them a discount for ordering such a large quantity that way they feel like they are getting a deal.

On a side note.... I love Zaxby's, its my favorite fast food place, the closest one to me is an hour away and now you have this pregnant woman craving a chicken club sandwich. LOL!!!!

I will make sure I look for your print next time I am there.

$5000.00. Let them do the repro work, since they know what they need.

Do you think I should find out the size they are planning to use first?

I'd ask a bunch of questions, like:

- what product do they really want (digital file, print, framed print, if a print what finish & dimensions, etc. etc.)
- how soon do they want it, and how many
- what are the terms of use (in-store only, national ad, print copy, magazines, billboards)
- what is their normal budget for a similar budget (more importantly, how much are they offering you?)

but, most of all - CONGRATULATIONS!! :D

Suggestion: go to a major stock site like Getty and search for a similar photo, then price it for 380 uses and see what number comes up. That should give you a general idea, but ultimately it's up to you to determine what you feel your photos are worth.

Don't have much to add as far as suggestions.

But CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

This Alamy image (AYEMMJ on the page) is similar. Use their price calculator on the image page that pops up. I get for point of sale posters something in the order of $3300. But then again, that might need to be refined.

Now I need some other advice: Just to see if they liked them, I sent them proofs of five other rooster photos...and they want to buy them all! So they want a total of six photos for a run of 250 each at poster size more or less.

Congratulations Catherine!

I haven't a clue what to charge, except to say charge as much as the market will bear! Don't sell yourself short. You could also ask for free meals for you and your family for the rest of your lives (in addition to money). That is, unless you're a vegetarian like me!

Incredible news! It's been a great year for you!

The Alamy calculator comes up with $1870 each. $9350 for 5 such images at poster size. That is what I would quote.
