Yeah I've been following those photos around. They look pretty legit and Nikon is supposed to be announcing two new cameras soon. Likely this month. If so, it'll probably be this and the much anticipated D3X.

A D70 -> D700 upgrade sounds very good. :)

the only problem is that you won't be able to use some of your cool lenses anymore i.e. the sigma 30 1.4, 10,5 fisheye and the tokina 12-24 as these lenses are designed for aps-c sensors only...:-/
still sounds like an awesome upgrade!

If you cut off the hood on the 10.5, you unleash its full field of view... kinda cool, actually.

I don't see why it'd have an issue with APS-C sensor lenses... The D3 doesn't, it'll probably just do what the D3 does and crop the sensor automatically. Nikon wouldn't be stupid enough to not include that feature.... I hope.

Prolly not since it is not a replacement for the D300 more a direct competitor to the Canon 5D.

Yeah well you can't win them all... ;-D

Its a d300 with FF, so even as a competitor to the 5D, it should push the D300 price down a bit.

Different category and user base, different in many ways and not just a D300 with a full frame sensor. I doubt it will go down but if it does maybe a rebate of $100...

Now I'll have to start working weekends again... what a great combo to have a D700 for primes and D300 for zooms what else would you need (other then double CFcards and Batts).

I would get one, have 2 Bodies all that flexibility and STILL cheaper then a single D3 that’s awesome.

Ugh...and I just got my D300 last week. Ugh! Ugh!

Here is your rebate $1646 $150. Guess it can buy more gas... :-)

I still can't part with my D50 and my D200. I just got the D300, and I guess now I will have to get that too.

I better start doing more things around the house so the wife won't get mad.

Ooh, and I was getting an itchy finger to push the "buy" button on a D300.

I am not sure that I really want to spend all that money, or more for a D700, but I've decided I could do almost everything with my 10-20 and 18-200 lenses if my D80 would just have better low light performance. But as much as I like it, and the form factor, waaayyy too much noise after ISO 800.

So a price drop on the D300 would be very welcome. Of course, I'll need to look at the D700 pretty seriously too, though a price in the $2500+ range is most likely going to keep me away. (Not to mention that my lenses wouldn't work properly on a FF camera).

But we'll see it when it's official!

yeah, the higher iso performance and faster fps are what have me saving for the 300. Besides the 84 1.8, 10-20 and a decent 18-200 range zoom, I have most everything I need right now. Hopefully it drops, but if not i'll still be saving for it.

What about a replacement for the D80? Right now you've got a D60, D300 and D3. Now were talking about a D700 and D3x. We need something between the 60 and the 300. I would love to upgrade my D70 but the 300 and possibly 700 are a bit out of reach for me. A D90 would be perfect. The D80 has been out too long for simply a D80x/s.
