My neighbor's daughter graduated High School on Saturday. Hannah is a very shy young lady and I have to give my wife credit for printing out a bunch of poses from the internet and helping pose her with me. Hannah did great, enduring about an hour of shooting without a single groan or complaint even though I know she was not comfortable. But as you can see, she photographs beautifully! I took with the 50mm and the rest with a rented 24-70 2.8L.

I guess this was my official first senior photo shoot of sorts. I agreed to come over and shoot some pics of her in exchange for $50, some beer and a free meal - hey, it was baked salmon for cryin out loud! MMmmmmm. But please don't tell Prof_Fate what I charged or he'll be all about lecturing me. ;-) I will be giving a CD with all the processed photos to my neighbor and let him get prints, so I am anxious to get some feedback. BE HONEST - what could have been done better, what might I still be able to do to improve any of the shots. I'm not looking for "great job!", but if you really think that, then feel free. :) I really just want some solid opinions so I can improve and eventually charge $100 and maybe a filet mignon.

The whole collection is here, if you feel inclined to comment on any of them. And if you have any alternative editing ideas, feel free to have at any of the images and post your edits here with at least the general steps.

I think the poses and photos themselves are fine. The only thing that sticks out to me, and it could be intentional or could be 7am eyes, but the colors looks a little flat and blah. She doesn't stick out or jump out at ya. Just seems to be missing some tonal range. I'll look again after I've woken up a bit more.

These 2 are my favorites. I think you did very well on the poses. There is a good variety in there. I bet the family will be very happy with them. The only problem that I have is the softness in her eyes (mostly in the color shots). She has beautiful eyes and I would love to see them more in focus and as a focal point.

Sounds like a fun shoot! I like the poses & the senior is really pretty; she has beautiful eyes. As another commentator said, I'd like to see a little more contrast & pop. For example, I like the pose on the third one you show, but prefer the contrast on this version of it:



perhaps cropped in like the one you chose. The bokeh is beautiful on this too!

Nice work, Ken. I especially like her peeking around the tree. Wish you'd used a reflector to get more light in her face on some of them, but the processing looks very nice.

Thanks Cindi. I probably should have mentioned - I originally thought I would have an hour with her and the family before they left for the grad ceremony, but I only got 5 minutes before they had to leave, so a couple quick family snaps on their deck. Then they had a big BBQ party with about 40 people or so that evening and I had to shoot around the yard and around the people (scarfing bites of salmon and swigging my beer in between shots). I left my reflector at home and the sun was nearly setting when we started. I had the 30D, the two lenses and the 580EXII with lightsphere for fill.

Hard to go wrong with a model as pretty as she is. I saw them when you posted them. Very nice.
