I'm surprised, I really didn't think my entry would start this high.

Well after voting in this challenge I have to say that my dislike of long titles has been upped to pure disdain of them. Some good shots in there but nothing hit me as fabulous.

Mine started out with a 4.00 after 3 votes...

Has climbed to a 5.79 after 48 with 2 good comments. Thanks!

Is it wrong?

Ok...besides a few photos..that were just really great ideas, I voted pretty low on pictures that didn't actually show a 'crime scene' in the most basic definition of the phrase.

I read the challenge...and it didn't say our interpretation of a crime scene...so I figured my vote should reflect that.

Is that wrong? Or is leniency usually given by the voters on creative interpretation of the challenges? (even if the wording of the challenge appears to be rigid)

I voted low too. I also voted high on several other images that fit the challenge imo. I don't vote lower than 3 usually but felt compelled to in this challenge because the image just wasn't even close to what I was expecting.

i had gotten a comment saying that my photo is more of a dead body than a scene. But isn't the dead body part of the scene?

Yeah well I got a baghead comment that stated mine was just a part too and "what is the crime, what is the scene"...and my score went from 5.88 to a 5.6xx

But, I woke up to this and am happy once again:

I dont understand why people have a problem with long titles! I mean, is it really that hard to sit there and spend not even 5 seconds on reading? My titles are always really short, but for this challenge I figured why not? It certainly fits the photo!

First of all, you can choose to vote however you want. It is YOUR vote and YOUR privilege.
I myself do not feel to portray a crime scene that the entire scene must be depicted. The details say : Capture an image of a real or fictitious crime scene. Well, if the image of the crime scene contains a part of the scene or the entire scene, as long I get a sense that we are at a crime scene then I am fine with that. I tend to vote an image on it's technicals rather than nit pick on how precise the photogs understanding of the details vs mine were. This is after all a learning site that has these challenges as a hands on tool.
Voting an image low because it may not meet the details as I see them would be an injustice if the technicals were all executed well. JMHO

I agree about the 'part' part. LOL. There is one photo in particular that only includes a single part of a crime scene..and I loved it. In fact..a crime photographer would take photos like this as well as overall pics. So I had no problem with that.

I am still thinking on my feelings for the other part. I agree it is a place of learning, but the whole point of the challenges is to give us a rubric to hone those abilities. Right? If we can't stay in the rubric, for myself at least, I feel like I haven't learned anything....

I also had a hard time trying to distinguish between a photo of a crime in action..and a photo of a crime scene.

I am convinced the two are not the same. But that is left to interpretation as well...

I had a hard time coming up with ideas...because most of them involved photo's of the crime 'in progress' and not necessarily a crime scene.

I eventually came up with my idea four hours before deadline....and I think my rush in post processing is why I am doing so horribly in rankings. Currently 5.1

Oh I am not saying we should not try to stay with the theme. By all means we should. But I stay flexible on how the photographer may interpret that theme. If a shot comes no where near the theme I will knock down for it. That is after I have turned my head and thoughts sideways and upside down and tried a shoehorn on the image to see if I can find where the photog tried fitting it in.

I thought one in particular didn't really fit the theme...but it had such an instant impact that made me laugh out loud...that I had to give it a 10.

so i know where you are coming from.

I just wanted a little validation of my own voting procedure. Thanks alot!

*another question.

In advanced...we are allowed to use burn...but not to 'add features'.

Since, I did not do this in my submitted photo and it won't reveal my submission.

Would it be considered adding features to burn skin to make it look bruised?

In the most basic definition of the phrase, a 'crime scene' would be a place where a crime has been committed. In the context of the challenge, a photograph should then be taken of a place where a crime has been committed and, furthermore, in a condition still pertinent to a current investigation of that crime. I'm pretty confident that none of the entries fit that description.

FWIW, vote as low as you like on mine, I was having a laugh.
