Yep... 113 votes... no comments. My score has gone from 5.2 shortly after voting started to about 4.22 now. Not sure what the problem is with my photo?? On my way to my lowest score so far :)

I haven't received a vote or comment yet! Oh yeah...I didn't enter any of the challenges this week. :-)
03/25/2004 12:18:10 AM · #4
My magazine shot was at 5.2 after 50 votes, now at 132 votes it's up to 6. That's a first. Mine usually stay within 1 point from beginning to end. I'm happy to have received 7 comments.
Orange is following my usual pattern; 5.2 after 115 votes. There isn't a lot of orange in the shot. The main subject is orange, however, the subject is very small. It has 8 comments. I knew it wouldn't do too well. I had the idea all week and finally put everything together at the last minute after trying various setups for a couple of days. I have redone it already but am still finding more things to do to get it the way I imagine it should be. When I finally do get it right, I'll be happy, but it still wouldn't fit the challenge.

Well my orange photo isn't doing to well. Standing at 4.5 with 1 comment and 121 votes. It must be that bad that people don't even know what to say! hahahaha Oh well you live and you learn!

words cos its so marvelous!!

My orange entry started with a 5.0, and has now dropped like a lead balloon down to 4.1 with 126 votes, 6 comments, one I didn't even understand. lol. well, I guess if we are ALL getting low votes, maybe the voters just don't like the color orange & maybe we are right with the top of the pack???

I am actually having my best streak yet. Definetely not in ribbon standings. But I am quite pleased with how both shots are doing.

With the first 20 votes, when I went to bed, it was at a 4.4 with one comment.

Then in the morning I was at a 4.9 with three comments.

And now, I'm at a barely at a 4.6 with 5 comments.

I was expecting to do very poorly, just about on par with what I'm at now.

Yeah I'm noticing the same thing...low scores and no comments, on photos I thought were not so bad, if I can say so myself. ;) Maybe some people woke up on the wrong side of the bed or just aren't as enthusiastic about leaving comments, or voting decently for that matter. ;P

Oh well, live and learn. When you're at the mercy of thousands of photographers who can send your rating down with a click of the mouse, you've gotta sort of hold your breath, hope for the best and ride out the storm. ;)

Keep up the good work, y'all!

I started great with 5.2 ( previous scores have been in range of 4.3 and 4.6) and than when i refresh the page , one or two votes more my score went down to 4.8 , I was bit upset first than realized DPC scores are addictive , i a really happy with my Photograph and it doesnt bother me even i score below 4, 3 or 2.

I just got 2 comments from 112 votes which is something not very happy about , i would love to get really bad score but more comments, last time i got 19 comments.

I find that you can't comment on everything and if the photo has the subject in it or something close then you should start by rating it a 5. 5 is about 50 percent which is a pass for having the subject matter in it and as the pictures get better(based on opinion) the score should go higher. Aply all other rules to the picture i.e. the rule of thirds, and the score should increase. I believe that even if the photo is bad but has the subject matter in it then it should maintain a 5. A really bad photo that doesn't have the subject matter in it should be rated lower. If anybody else can offer a better way to vote then please give your voting technique. This way of voting has only been adopted by me in the past 3 challenges.

Just a followup. The comments I got on my orange picture have really helped and I will be using them to improve the final picture. Thanks to the people that posted them.

I have received 123 votes on my Orange entry and no comments yet. This is my first challenge so I don't know if my scores are low compared to my usual. My average goes up and down between 4.5 and 4.6.

Very good idea. I wish more people would do this. I am going to use this from now on. Starting with this challenge. I wish the scoring wasn't bad to good, but instead bad to excellent. I don't see many photo's that I would classify as bad, but when comparing them to my 5+ scores that I gave, I was marking them below 5 although, not BAD in my eyes.

your scoring system is absolutely insane in my opinion. 5 is average. I would like to think that simply being able to have the correct subject for the challenge is not what we consider to be average. That would be saying that I could take a horribly blurry washed out poorly composed photo of an orange (I am trying to portray the idea of a terrible photo by any standards here) and you would give me a 5 in the orange challenge no matter what!

I think that if someone can get a 1 for being off topic, it's only fair to give a 5 for being on topic. Some people weigh topic so heavily that it's worth 9 points.

Your average vote cast is just over 4, do the majority of the images not meet the challenge in your view?

I score

not challenge/bad = 1/2
challenge/and poor = 3
challgenge/and ok/good = 4/5/6
challenge/and very good = 7/8
challenge/and a WOW! = 8/9
challenge/and a double WOW! = 10 (these are rare for me to give out!)

Sometimes I pass voting on a picture because of the 'content' even if it meets the challenge...and please do not ask what type or why because you wont get an answer.

03/25/2004 07:53:15 AM · #25
4.9 score 151 votes 1 comment, which was actually really good!
