Well, my best critic bluntly told me what was not appealing about my photo. My critic is my father, who is not a photographer and is not a member of this site. Once he told me I could see what he was talking about. I did not see that when I first entered it. All I saw was that I had improved the lighting, sparkles in my model's eye and great skin. What my father said I did not show my model's best assets which are the eyes, the lips etc. He agreed that my lighting was good but I did not show the true essence of the model. I guess that is why I am getting the score I am getting. I would love to reshoot my model but the model has come down with a cold and I am not that good a photographer to hide the fact that the model is not feeling good. But I will try this again in the near future to improve on my portrait shooting. |

it's low but i agree with the score and comments. i think i should try harder next submission. i have a bad habit of saying "good enough" i know i can do better than this |

Well, here we are 95.5 hours from the end. I am pretty happy with the scores for my first portrait submission.

I can't complain. The score popped up 1/2 point today. I am happy. All my comments mentioned the one annoying thing, among a few others. That item was due to my sloppiness in the last 15 minutes available to submit. I think there are some others that mentioned the "good enough" attitude. I have to get over that.
I can't wait for Tuesday midnight.

Well there could be several reasons why it's gone... if someone wasn't doing well with it they might have requested that it be DQ'd or if they truly deserved the DQ ..ummm no compassion there I'm afraid : ) |

Do the eyes have to be sharp or the skintones natural?? I'm only asking because even though my image is doing ok (6.2 with 3 favorites) - I am getting a mix of comments that really makes me wonder if we are judging on technicality or artistry.. I prefer the latter |

Well another way to put it is that they're out of focus and over-processed. Like you, I also prefer the artistic side but if the technicals detract/distract from the art then the viewer will likely have a problem with the image.

Regarding male and female. I am not surprised there are more entries and views and higher scores for females than males. We live in a culture and are members of a species that admires females more for their phyical appearance than anything else. Is that right? No. Is it the way it is, yes.
