(Amazon Link)
Ran across this article on Gizmodo
and though I would pass it along.

Hmmm - I did initially wonder if they meant the second edition of the book . . but looking at the Amazon page it says the book is due to be published on November 10th 2008, so I guess it's in pretty safe territory either way.

The 5DII should be in the shops by then.

Pity they didn't put a photo of the new Camera on the front :- )

There's a long thread over at DPReview on this... someone actually e-mailed the author and asked about it. She said the Amazon posting was "an error." Right, an error that it was publicly posted.
Well, we all know an update will be forthcoming, so this is really no surprise. I'd lay odds that the announcement will come in late August, which will mark the 3-year anniversary of the announcement of the 5D.

Now things are going to get interesting. With the release of the 5D Mk2, the price of new 5Ds will drop and all of the gotta-have-the-latest people will be selling their 5Ds so they can upgrade to the 5DMk2. Lots of inexpensive full-frame cameras will soon be available.

I'm not sure this is going to be true since the list for the Mark II is about $3,500. If the 5D is discontinued, then the 5D bodies may actually rise in price somewhat. (Not saying a used will go for more than they did retail, but that the discount for a used body may get smaller.)

Purple is fine on the D300.

Nods, seems all CCD and CMOS have the same "bug" and it only affects specific purples with specific lighting, etc. and I just happened to hit those over and over. I have uncanny bad luck lol :)

Hmmm, according to some of the links this is supposed to be a 16mp, full frame, weather proofed beastie thats shoots at, get this, 6.5fps.. man if that was true then I would chop in my 5D and upgrade.. my god, what an amazing camera that would be.. The thing is, it is quite possible as they (Canon) have been thrown a curveball by Nikon with their D3/D300 releases which are pretty darn tasty and will take some beating by Canon..

ummm, go Nikon!!!

Figures, leave it to Canon to pack in more mega-pixels and increase the noise. Then again, Nikon will probably be right on their tails. Sighs...

Doesn't 'figure' at all. I can't fathom how anyone would form an opinion like this, unless you're just trolling.

The D300's pixel density on a full-frame sensor would be somewhere between 24 and 29 MP. Canon has a way to go before they need to worry about a comparable amount of noise from density.

I'm excited about 16MP as I like to blow things up big. I'm also excited to see what Digic III can do on a full frame sensor. I won't be first in line for a body, but I'll be upgrading perhaps within a year.

Sorry DrAchoo I should have been a lot more clear. I meant compared to the 5D mark one, 12mp. One of the 5Ds strongest points is its low to zero noise. Increasing the mp on the same sized sensor will probably affect that, though we have no idea of how much.

And violinist123 I do suppose it was a bit of a troll yes. I'm angered that I originally wanted a Canon Powershot S3/S5 to replace my Canon Powershot G2 but got turned off on the amount of noise the cameras have, mostly due to Canon cramming too many pixels onto a small sensor.

I'm not saying the they unique in this, heck everyone is doing it. But I was a Canon fan boy up to that point, I expected them not to sway to public opinion and hype. It hurt to find out I was mistaken, so I am taking it on out them and without intent on Canon users. I am sorry if I offended anyone with the statement.

I would still love an S5 with 5mp or larger sensor. I believe Canon makes some of the best cameras in the world, but from 6 years ago when the G2 was new, their mid-range market has really faltered. Probably just my personal opinion.

Canon, like everyone else is just giving the market what the market wants. FWIW, with regard to the DSLR market specifically, Canon has been the market leader in low-noise performance. It can be argued that the Nikon D3 currently holds the top spot, however you can bet on a very strong response from Canon. All in all, this is great news for the consumer, who benefits from ever increasing performance at roughly constant cost.

Well the market is stupid! *goes to cry*

Wonder if this one will share the mk3 focus features or if it will actually focus :-)

Seriously... Looking to a 5Dmk2 because it should hit the sales of 5D's hard and I will pick one up.... always wanted to get to FF (although, I am having twinges about leaving the 10-22).

What are the opinons of the group about the coming Sony a900? Gizmodo is reporting that is will be priced BELOW $2000. A 24 Megapixal full frame camera for less than two grand. Here's a link: //gizmodo.com/393848/sony-flagship-a900-dslr-to-run-under-2000

Rumors about a 5dmk2 have been running for a year or more alot of the specs mentioned early on match the Rebel xsi or would match the xsi if was a full frame. I would not count on a 5dmk2 coming anytime soon. Wait until Canon actually announces its coming before expecting it because until then its nothing but rumor and high hopes
