God forbid anyone dare critcise King Joey.

Personally I think Ansel Adams is pretty mediocre it comes to photograpy, doesnt make him any less of a successful or respected photographer, its just my opinion. I think people are touchy because they see JoeyL as "one of their own". Some even delude themselves they are his `friend` because they have plassed pleasentries with the guy or even ,gosh darn, recieved an email from him. SO they kind of feel they have to defend any attacks on him..

For the record, I think he is pretty awesome - but again, its my opinion, means shit in the grand scheme of things, the only person in the world who hangs on every word I say is my daughter who is five, and thats just dandy with me.

I don't particularly care either way what he thinks I just don't see why with all the bad crap happening in the world people can't just keep their thoughts to themselves, I was kind of dragged up to believe that if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing. Manners cost nothing as far as I recall.

Regardless of your opinion on his photography, it is possibly to heap praise and respect upon someone you do not know and even be in awe of them. I mean, I am a huge HUGE fan of Nuno Bettencourt the guitarist regardless of what other people think (they one with the long hair who did `more than words` they say..) and I heap praise upon his talents and his achievements and I am pretty sure he has never heard of me.. I dont think thats a bad thing - looking upto someone is a totally natural & healthy thing to do, a lot of people here look up to Joey and his achievements and yes, they are big big achievements for such a young man, I know at 18 all I was trying to do was get laid as much as possible (not very much) and drink lots of alcohol, whereas Joey is a young man who has got bags of talent and is actually making a name for himself in the industry. There must be someone `famous` or well known that you have respect for and admire for what they have achieved?

My Mother all ways taught and told me:

"If you can not say anything nice, then don't say anything at all!.

I never did listen to my Mother.

Rugman, go eat some fiber, maybe that will loosen up the muscles that you strain being such a downer all the time.

This is awesome, I'm trying to get my head around why you give a s*** so much about what some people think of Joey. And YES I personally would and will defend him as I HAVE had the honor of meeting him and Im not saying that because Im on any fanboy wagon, but saying it because I have spoken with him and he is a very interesting character to talk to and you would be surprised what he can shoot straight out of the box with little or no editing. He is very creative, has a great eye for photography and a great understanding of the tools he uses in his photography and no Im not talking about Photoshop, Im talking about the cameras and lights and the environments he shoots in.

The lecture he gave here at the DPC workshop was very informative and I myself learned a lot from him and about him. Did you ever stop to think that some of these people giving him praise have actually met him, worked with him, talked with him and are friends with him and not just some sort of photographic groupies...

If you don't give a s*** and really could care less then why do you keep posting in this thread, why not just set it to ignore and go on with your day. IMO judging from your comments and they way you keep posting in this thread you are just a classic internet troll, nothing more...

I have seen his pictures at challenge end. I do not have to go to his portfolio to see his pictures.

Seriously you are more than a little backwards if you can't see that your quoted comment "Let's get it straight, the boy does some great photo editing, but falls short on the art of taking a great picture." is not a critique, if you haven't looked in his port then how would you know that and why bother to continue making these daft comments, in your own words you are supposed to have more valuable things to do with your time, I for one wish you would go and do them!

It's called an opinion. If this wasn't a forum, then I wouldn't state my opinion. But the forums are for discusiing and opinions, therefore my opinion is here. As far as nothing nice to say, say nothing? Need I remind you of some of the responses you have had on my opinion? Seems like you are contradicting yourself, unless you are the one to say not nice things. Then it is ok.

Yes, he is called Dad. He is a real person who has actually done things FOR ME. Not someone who couldn't care less whether I was on the face of the earth or not, or woulndn't miss me if I was gone. You want to praise people, praise real people. What you see on tv, movies, and stage is not who the person is. That is fantasy tv land. Meet these people in real life, and most would probably ruin their image you have of them because of how big of a jerk they would probably be.

Your mom is not my mom. Maybe you should have listened to her. I don't need to loosen up, you need to live in reality. I'm not always down, just have some opinions you don't like and/or would care not to hear.

My my, a little testy, are we? You can praise anyone you want, but if you go public with it, expect some people to not agree with you. Praise him all you want to yourself if you don't want to hear feedback. No one put a gun to your head to praise him in the forums. You took that liberty all by yourself. I don't give a s**t how much you praise him, but if you want to praise him here, I will give my opinion, no matter how unpopular it is. If you don't like it, set this thread to ignore and go on with your own life. You can defend him all you want. You can say you had the HONOR to meet him. Sorry, but not everybody would consider it an honor to meet a person, or this person for that matter. Your opinion, you made it public, deal with what you have to read. It's not what they think about Joey, it's what they think about his work, and how they have elevated it to a point that is ridiculous based on such little accomplishments. I compare this to(my God I am not getting political) President Obama. Less than a years experience in politics, and he is now the president. I'm just saying some people do not deserve the praise and recognition they get for so little accomplishments. Now, go back to praising Joey in private unless you want a response.

this is where i share opinion with you about joey. I do not think your opinion is idiotic.
This is unpopular though at dpc, but does not make it less valid as an opinion.

Why can't you just leave this topic alone? Also, I don't care what others think about my opinions, but I am entitled to them, and I will continue to relay them. I don't think I look idiotic because my opinions don't sit well with others, but I really don't care if others don't like my opinion anyway. It is my opinion, and you have every right to disagree with it. I assume you have your own opinion too so where is the problem?

Again Rugman???

I thought that enough people jumped down your throat and made you look idiotic the last time you started down this road back in the end of March. Look back to the posts in this thread around about 03/30/2009 for a reminder.

Don't you ever learn to just leave it alone?

Here's an observation that tells a bit of a story...

rugman1969, you don't post in the forums very often. You have only posted to 10 threads in the last four months.

In two of those threads your comment was directed toward comments about Joey.

In this thread you commented back in March and when it was again brought to the front page you commented again.

You seem to have a pattern of startng off your bias against him with the questions "Why?" or "Who cares?" which is not offering an opinion at all. You seem to be simply attempting to provoke the other posters.

One way to summarize your posting in the forums would be to say that in the past four months you have responded negatively to praise of Joey three out of your last ten forums posted to.

It appears that you are maybe a little too preoccupied and/or obsessed with people's perception of success regarding Joey.

Oh, yeah...that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Okay rugrat, or whatever your name is, how about you go take a look at the stuff Joey shot with a cheap little p&s when he was 15 and 16 years old. Even back then you can see that he's got talent.

People do what makes them feel good; you only come out of hiding/lurking to slam Joey. No other reason. Ergo, putting down people makes you feel good. How very, very immature.

Trust me, that tells us a helluva lot more about you than it does about Joey or anyone else.

Wiki's Definition of a Troll

guys, if you ignore him, he'll probably stop. i guess trolling can be quite fun for some people, although i'm not really a fan of it. i spend a decent amount of time over at FARK and i've seen some really good trolls over there, but most of the time they are very obvious. just reading through this thread, it's apparent that rugman is really really good at what he does.

whenever i see a joey lawrence thread i just think "whoa!" poor guy, has probably had to deal with blossom references for most of his life.
05/20/2009 09:24:37 PM · #198
It's really simple. A lot of us are just *proud* of Joey; we "knew" him when he was a kid hanging out here, and we "liked" him and his attitude, and we "admired" the way his vision and his work grew, and are just as pleased as could be that he's done well. Doesn't matter that most of us don't know him personally, doesn't matter at all.

He was an active member of our community, and he's gone on to a larger stage, and he's doing very well out there, and it's all good.

Pity there are some who can't just leave it at that.
