I am a student studying Graphic Design and for my final project of my first year I have set my own brief to look into perspective through photography. I will be looking at many aspects such as linear spherical and aerial perspective. I will then produce some sort of visual graphic to show my results.

Anyway getting to the point I will be undertaking this task in and around London, I wondered if you guys knew any lesser know spots to get some good perspective shots?

This is mainly an explorative task giving me the opportunity to experiment with the different effects obtainable from different types of lenses, wide-angle, telephoto fisheye etc...

Any Tips and Suggestions much appreciated

I can't help you as I hardly ever go to London, but DPC members that might include MAK, [user]MrPants[/user], and Simms - you could ping them a PM.

For an aerial view, you can try going to the London Eye and taking loads of shots upthere?? If not, I would think getting inside a tall building to take some shots =]

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any interesting buildings in London that allows photography Inside? So far im looking to go to St Pauls and the British Museum. Any other suggestions?

A bit obvious, but the stations, especially St.Pancras.

Hey Luke,

There are so many lovely buildings in London but sadly photography inside those buildings is becoming something it's almost impossible to do.

If I intend to take pictures somewhere I always try to get in touch with the company first to ask there 'rules' on photography...just so that I am ready for when the not so nice security guy comes over and asks what I'm doing!

So long as you dont use a tripod you'll be fine in the 'grand hall' at the British Museum but I would recommened to you get in touch with someone at St Pauls as they do restrict where you can take photographs...this includes some of the areas that you can get views across London.

Other than the places you suggested St Pancras, as SaraR said, is a great place to photograph. The Globe Theatre is quite an interesting building and one of my all time favourite places for great views is the Observatory in Greenwich. You get a wonderful view from there back across the city and to Canary Wharf, you can even catch a small glimpse of the Millenium Dome/O2 Arena :o)

If you're taking a trek around London and need some people with local knowledge it's always worth trying to organise a GTG as I am sure plenty of people here would be more than happy to show you around :o)

A trip out to Docklands might well be worth the effort. The long expanses of water leading up to Canary Wharf, for example.

Thanks Talj and SaraHfor the advice, I will include the globe theatre and St Pancras in my trip up to London. I have emailed the Globe, and St Paul’s regarding permission to use photography, just waiting for a reply. I am looking to do lots of exterior shots,such as docklands but its forecast to be heavy rain all week :( so looks like some night time shooting may be in order :)

If anyone else has any other locations to add, i would be very grateful

As has already been stated by others, check out the London Eye. I don't know if you have been on it already, but the chances for linear, spherical and perspective are all available on it. Plus, it is a great flight:))

I think there are so many opportunites in London to satisfy all your needs, with so many great buildings, monuments, streets and of course the River. If travel is not a problem, there is Wembley Stadium, many other football grounds, the O2 dome and of course the River:)
