Interesting link - thanks! And don't be too quiet. :-)

And guess what, guys? I have an all-expense paid photo shoot in Tokyo next week! The photo is to be used in both a Japanese newspaper and the Washington Post. I'm very excited. Goes to show you don't even have to be a real photographer with any training to occasionally have cool stuff pan out!

Wow! Congrats! That is awesome. So do tell - how did this come about and what are you going to be shooting?

Photojournalism of a journalist - a guy who has an expose on the Japanese mafia coming out. Edit to add: it will be a tough shoot, as I have to do it across the street while he is talking to some cops to get the photo they want.

If you don't mind me saying, this sounds rather dangerous. Please be careful!

'Grats on the new toy!

By the way, does anyone want to do a "class" using that link that Rob posted? Maybe in groups of four or five? Do the exercises and then help each other out with the results?

I'm interested but someone is gonna have to give me the dummies version of how this will work lol. I saw lesson one and I am going out of town tomorrow so I am gonna get the photos from there (I hope)

that looks like a really good class, deb. i wish i could commit to anything right now, but sadly i'm just too hectic, blah and disorganised.

thanks for the input rob, deb and don, here's a reworked version of the cd cover. i'm just so creatively blah at the moment, you'd never know i used to teach this stuff...

For those interested in the "class", rather than me typing the whole thing, go here. Read. :-)

I think if we are going to do this, we need to allow a week for each lesson (I haven't read past Lesson 1) because we all have different shooting schedules - ie days when we can shoot. Sound good? Do we want to start a separate thread for all this? Where's Bruce_the_Robert anyway? Whether he intended it or not, this is all his idea!

Christian, I like this version much better. It's a lot cleaner.

I'd be interesting in doing this; should we start a new threat for TS assignments?

Congrats! You're gonna love this. I know you're Michelle from your profile here. I went to the link, but it said "M. White" so I started flipping back looking for "Michelle." FINALLY realized.

Jeanne, congrats bigtime on your weight loss!

Susan, errr ... enjoy, yeah, that's the verb ... enjoy your floor. ;)

Catherine, the Japan trip sounds amazing.

And to everyone in general, Karen (krnodil) asked me to run the Yappie vote because she's on the ballot this month. I've sent out the PMs to the random 10 people who haven't had the chance to vote for at least the last few months. Which is a looong way of getting around to saying how much I enjoyed looking at the list of recent voters. I've met or had significant direct contact via email and PMs with easily 3/4 of the 40 folks on the list (including the 10 I picked for this month).

Made me realize why I like TS so much, even though I know I've been more or less absent for a while. More more than less, I'm afraid.

Anyway, I hope you're all enjoying spring (well, fall, to you Aussies!).

Holy crap!

Did I miss a discussion of the fact that SaraR is in 11th place in the Free Study Marathon? She's now ahead of major ribboners like MAK, mpeters, and jdannels.

And hey, basssman7's in 20th place!

Having/getting much more support in my local area with my work makes me wonder about this place as an index.

I won, with one of the best scores overall posted in the last couple of years, my local camera club's photography contest with this shot.

Maybe this explains my general malaise with challenges.......

Hi guys,
I have bought myself a new toy. I can't wait for it to get here. And I DO have a little while to wait, I did not splurge on fast shipping.
Check it out.
I got it brand new for only $179

Well, my FS entry for April I (as usual) entered on the last night. Unfortunately up until today I have been using my laptop for the past couple weeks without even using my external monitor, so that is what I used to edit it.

Now I have my desktop computer set up again, and I looked at it and I am not impressed by how it looks. However it is sitting at a nice 6.21 average.....so does that mean it could have done better or that the way I like things to look is not they way everyone else does? Now I am confused. Oh well, I will do things to suit me and if others like it that is great, if not... their loss.

great stuff! I have always had good results with my sigma lenses, and as long as you get the APO version they are great quality at way less than the Nikon or Canon ones.

My most recent toy was a Spyder 3 pro display calibration device, and to be honest it makes just a slight difference to the settings I had previously because I have a fairly decent eye for colour casts. So I am not sure if it was worth the money or not. Oh well, at least I know I am seeing things correctly. (in theory)

Germaine, you are more than welcome to join us! I'll try to put something together for the first week's assignment and post. Anyone who wants to join in can, but I'll probably try to limit the number of people per group to keep it manageable.

Here's your reminder! ;) (It's not like you haven't seen the picture, just that I've never won one of these!) It would be nice to come away with one of those printers!
