wacom graphire and ps cs3 mapping issues

Greetings DPC!
I am using graphire tablet to edit in cs3, but it will not map properly.
It seems that NO MATTER WHAT I do with the mapping settings (I have even tried mouse mode), when I am working in photoshop, it decides to map the active area to the rightmost 4x3(approx) portion (it's a 4x5 tablet).
As I am using a widescreen monitor, a 4-high, 3-wide tablet is almost useless.
The tablet functions perfectly in all other programs I have tried. (including bridge and acr)

I am running windows vista.
It is a wacom graphire(4?) 4x5
It is not my usual tablet (not sure why this would make a difference)
I have downloaded the latest necessary drivers.
I have used this tablet before with no problems.

Is there a setting WITHIN photoshop for mapping settings?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

my guess is you've got a driver conflict. as you said it isn't your usual tablet.

i use a graphire3 4x5 and i haven't had any issues. didn't have to amend any cs3 settings either. i installed cs3 well after installing the tablet.

I have used both the gaphire and the intous with CS3 and have not had any issues.

What operating system are you using? I have heard that there can be conflicts in Win Vista where the OS thinks the tablet is a touch screen device. I'd go to Wacom's site and verify that you have the latest driver/software for your OS.

You may try checking for Windows updates and service packs

Thanks for the quick responses...
So if it IS a driver conflict, why does it only mess up in photoshop?
I can have photoshop running and the tablet works fine as long as I'm using it in ACR or Firefox or something, but as soon as Photoshop is the ACTIVE window, the mapping gets screwed up.
It seems like a bad driver would mess up all programs. Of course, I don't really know much about drivers, so what "seems" may be irrelevant.

I just realized something else:
It's not mapping to the rightmost 4x4 like i though, but it is about 3" wide by 4" high, the exact mapping it uses when I use both of my monitors (laptop + 19" lcd), though I am only using one monitor, and I have the wacom properties set to only use one monitor.

So maybe photoshop thinks I'm using both monitors with properties set to map to both?

I use a Wacom Intuos 3 and have no problems when it is working properly. HOWEVER, occasionally, for some unknown reason, it gets whacked out. At that time, the operating system can't find the driver. I reboot, and it works fine. That's the only problem I have with it.

Thanks for the replies everyone; I'm headed back where I have my intuos pen, so I guess I can just use my intuos when I get there.

Looks like this thread was made for me - except it doesn't seem to have a resolution : (

I have a vista laptop and Wacom Bamboo tablet - the set up works fine for everything including PS Elements, but I have now installed CS3 and it won't map properly . .

Any more ideas ?

Perhaps contacting Wacom Tech Support or searching their Knowledge Base might be a good next step ... second choice after that would be contacting Adobe.

I have a Graphire4 4x5 and got a new computer with Vista on it a couple months ago. I downloaded and installed the Vista driver first before connecting it, but when I did connect it Vista still installed it's own software for it which overrided the Wacom software. I remember things were kinda funky with the Vista drivers/software running it. I forget exactly what I did to fix it, but I think I disabled the Vista drivers/software from startup and got the Wacom drivers working and now everything is fine, even in CS3. Don't know if that is similar to whats happening with yours though. Good luck, hope that helps.

Hmmm - I've reloaded the drivers, and gone to Wacom online to bring down the latest drivers and the problem seems to be intermitant.

Sometimes unplugging the tablet works - other times it doesn't. Most of the time the tablet seems to work fine, then it drops into 'mouse' mode where it loses the screen mapping and you have to keep moving the pen, just like you move and reposition a mouse.

Very frustrating

This was happening to me as well; I'm finding if I use the pen to open CS3 it works OK. No new drivers needed, running XP.
