This was near the edge of a shallow stream. Best I can figure - he jumped - got stuck - got dead

Thought I'd share

Or someone put it there....

Looks like its horns got stuck and it broke it's neck trying to free itself. Ouch. Cool shot though, you should have entered it for Curves II!

were there any other remains of the carcus on the ground?

i'd bet someone poached it - cleaned it and left a mark...

no, nothing was on the ground

so either some BIG animal dragged off the majority of the deer, or a man did.

something ripped it's face off, too

03/30/2008 02:19:44 PM · #10
yeah, could have fallen and been dragged off.

the other half says it hung itself...

i've seen similar in CT a few times. along the CT river. most times we'd find a good part of the rest of it up or down river. or i should say the dogs would find the rest of it...

03/30/2008 02:28:23 PM · #12
not if you're poaching. you take a cooler out with you - would be my guess. probably drive a car, not a truck too boot.

i'm not sure if hunting is legal here or not (in season, that is). I did think perhaps a hunter hung it here to cut it's head off in order to fit into a hunting bag. Just a guess, though, I don't hunt. And like I said, there was more weight on those antlers at one point judging by the knotch in the tree.

we'll never know, i guess

Oh no, you stumbled upon a secret grove in the woods, where the dark clan gather to practice their heinous rites. You realise that the Spring Equinox was only a week ago! Beware when you venture out at night, they are watching you!!

that deer is well over a week old. those dark clansters are long gone ;}

Deer...
1. climbs up to top of tree
2. loses grip
3. falls through branches
4. rack gets stuck
5. head and spine get pulled out
6. body falls to ground and runs off in embarrassment

or...A mutant squirrel decides to start laying the law down on the local fauna. He then hangs this in the tree as a message to a certain "relocater" to let him know what's in store for him.

Left over from Winter? Santa should be brought in and questioned, could be a hit & run.

That reminded me of this clip, shows the strenght of their necks. I do feel bad for the fellow, but I did chuckle as well.

While I guess it's possible, but I would think that small branch wouldn't hold the weight of a deer. *shrug*

As for the videos posted...funny. *grin*
