How about a challenge where you have to comment to vote? Sure, the number of votes would be low, but who cares? Each vote would be thoughtful.

Note, I'm just offering this as a suggestion for ONE challenge. I'm not trying to start a revolution here! (yet)

I don't think you can... even if you try to :P

The vote would be the same as always and those who normally provide well thought out comments will still do so. However, those who want to vote but don't really want to comment will probably just put one character in the comment box and move on.

... always the skeptic ;oP

That might be the one where I just put "nice shot" on all of them. :-}

Not a bad idea at all, however.

I like the idea a lot, but I'm just afraid it will be hard to pull off. I am afraid there will be a disproportionate number of entries relative to votes - I would love to have my picture in such a challenge, but find it hard to comment on 100% of entries... I guess others will feel the same.

Probably the most I would hope for would be to vote & comment on the minimum of 20% just so that my votes will count.

That said - why the heck not do it? Maybe we'll have an average of 10 votes per image, who cares? It will be interesting, shake things up a bit, and after all - it's just one challenge!

I don't understand why it would be hard to comment on 100% of the entries. I have done so for 3 challenges in the past month (Led Zeppelin being the latest) and it's has been relatively easy. I do give in depth comments not just "nice photo" and it does take time but the benefits to me have been tremendous. The critique process makes me pay more attention to the photo and I'm learning what works and what doesn't in other's photos which then translates to me taking better photos.

How about everyone who enters such a challenge is also agreeing to comment on 100%? That would keep the volume of entries to a manageable level.

As long as there is a mechanism in place for scrubbing entries from people who do not follow through.

I like that. That could work even without my original rule.
