I had zero comments on the Led Zeppelin challenge until just a few minutes ago.

You will have a comment on Led Zeppelin as I'm commenting on 100% for this challenge. :)

Yeah?! Me too! My Free Study entry is at zero comments, and my BW entry hasn't gotten any comments since the first day. What's going on?

Free Study: 0 comments, 100 plus votes, not so hot score.

How do I have almost 300 views and no comments?! Looking at my score jumping up and down (the first vote I had was a four *shudder*), it'd be nice to know why people either love or hate my shot.

I guess Moose hasn't gotten all the way around yet :(

Hoping 5+ on this one. Still early so there is hope.

I haven't scored/commented myself yet, so I feel a little hypocritical.

I've done 53% so far. I'll get to you. :)

I'm trying to give thoughtful comments, not just "nice photo", so it takes time.

Also in the Free Study no comments club. I may start a "comment on my Free Study" thread for after the challenge. We can all post our shots and get a comment or two from other members of the "club" - would anyone be interested in that?

Then, by all means take your time!! I will be a very patient girl for real insight.

Greetings :)

The language barrier might have something to do with people voting without comments...like me.
Im not good at expressing myself in English, nor do i understand it good enough.

I definitely see where you are coming from, but a response to a photo can be simplified from "a tad underexposed" into "too dark." If you're worried about how a comment will be taken by the photographer, put it this way- if we can't take a little criticism to better our art, then we probably shouldn't be submitting into challenges!!

Yes! I think the recent your-comments-are-hurting-my-feelings fiasco has put a lot of people off or just made them very cautious.

I have entries in two challenges currently:

Just went back and looked at the last two free studies, and the trend is not looking good:

December: Avg. 11.7 comments/entry, 1 comment every 14.57 votes
January: Avg. 4.7 comments/entry, 1 comment every 29.9 votes
February: Avg 2.4 comments/entry, 1 comment every 50.8 votes

I am not getting many comments either. I wish I could give commentators points instead of saying " Photographer found comment helpful." Then there would be a Blue Ribbon for the best commentator. Haha. What a competition to the benefit of us all...

I think you might be on to something there. Comments are great but "nice shot" and "fantastic" are no more than teasers. Maybe the ability to designate "most helpful comment" would encourage people to not only leave comments, but leave good comments.
03/06/2008 04:32:19 PM · #21
Okay then, who's for a point system for commentators? At least 10 comments per challenge gets you into the competition. Shouldn't be too hard for Langdon to implement...

Finally got 1 (ONE!) comment in Free Study
BUT now 0 (ZERO) comment in Silverware.

Both almost equally not so hot scores.
Just so's you better guys feel better.

(Better? What's better? Maybe a good little housewife and a guy who mows the lawn once a week? Oh, right, that's another thread).

And what mark would you give that 1 (one) commentator? a 1 or a 10?

I'd give 'em better than the guy who mows the lawn once a week.

You should go for it - it's worked well over the past couple of months. And I'm in the 5's yet again, although I've received a positive comment from posthumous which makes it all worthwhile!
