white pixel .. in all picture - DPChallenge Forums

just yesterday i noticed a white pixel in all the shots i took in exactly the same place..
is that normal to happen.. or do i need to worry my camera sensor is starting to break down ?

I'm not the most technically advanced person when it comes to cameras, but it may just be a single dead pixel on the sensor. I don't know if it means anything bad for the rest of everything, but simple cloning can fix it (it's pretty much the same as a dust speck. *shrug*

Humm, well that sounds like either a: a hot pixel (which isn't all that fixable) or b: a very fine speck on your sensor. Select the sensor cleaning setting on your 350D and pop of the lens. Is there any junk on your sensor? If so, be very careful and use a Qtip or a dust blower to remove it. If not, you probably have a dead pixel. A good way to tell is to zoom in on it as far as you can get, and generally they have a pattern like four in a square with one in the middle, or something similar. Hope this helps!

looking at 100% crop.. it looks like a dead pixel.. a single pixel sized spec is highly unlikely ..
i checked other sites and i think its a "stuck pixel" .. need i worry about that.. it doesnt bother me when i look at pictures, its only there when i look for it.. but should i worry about the sensor ?.. do i need to start shopping for a new camera body or something ? ...

No, theres no need to worry. This is a normal thing that happens to many cameras as they begin to age. However, if you still have your Canon warranty, by all means send it in - and they should have no problem replacing the sensor for you. This shouldn't affect anything other the single pixel, its not "infectious" to the other pixels, in other words :). But to be honest, I wouldn't start looking for another camera just because of that. It takes all of 2 seconds to remove the spot with the clone tool in PS. So, I would just keep shooting away! Good luck!

pardon my canon ignorance, but Sony has a feature that the camera on a monthly basis can self check to pixel map hot pixels to off so there isn't a need for post processing or repair. It might be worth seeing if your camera also has this feature.

havent tried it yet.. i'm at work.. i will do that when i go home and let ya know..
i'm .. curious about the post that states that doing that decreases sensor noise.. has anyone noticed noise level reduction after doing a sensor cleaning ?..
