Colour or B&W for this portrait?
Taken with a 40D 70-200 f2.8 at ISO 100

Yup. B/W.

Both are good, but the B&W is better. If you can, cloning out the box on the wall would help as well.

I think the B&W looks great.

I would leave the sign/box right where it is. If it was there...there is where it belongs. Keep it real.

The sign is the house number. Now that it has been mentioned it is a little distracting. I may leave the item in but try to darken it slightly.
It was taken in fairly strong sunlight and for a change I was able to use the 40d's spot meter to get a reading from his face.
Thanks for the comments.

Those are two different photos. I know this wasn't a choice, but I would prefer the second photo in B&W. I like the B&W treatment for this portrait, but I prefer the inclusion of the hand and cig. in the composition.

What Zal said.

Oh yeah, I agree with Zal. Definitely b/w. And especially the way he's 'peeking' around the edge, it looks almost as if he's been 'caught' smoking. Cool shot. And yes, darkening the sign may be nice.
