Ok, so i've never even been to San Francisco... but i will be there for a conference for the week March 23-28.

I'm thinking about staying for the weekend on the 29th and 30th, but i don't know anyone there. What better way to spend a weekend there than shooting with fellow DPCers around town?

Anyone in?

Aleks

I am currently living an hour outside of Lake Tahoe and don't know work schedules, but I am interested. I'll keep an eye on this thread. :)

I live in Modesto and would love to meet you guys. I could probably convince mpeters to maybe join us also. I'll definitely check/mark those dates.

I live about 45 minutes north of SF, I have a half marathon to run on the 29th in Napa (lol), but if anyone is available the 30th, it may just work! I'll keep an eye on this thread (and try to remember to bump it up occassionally) :D

Edited to say:

That is, if all you guys don't mind a girl tagging along ;)

:P That's what I say too :D
I guess it all depends on how bad that run whips me the day before :P

Hey, Tuesday, if you don't mind running my half of the marathon, I'm ready to meet labuda too. So that makes two girls.

Anyhow, what a great idea!

Fair warning: Last time I tried to show off our fair city, mid-January, to Artan, San Francisco veiled herself in fog, drizzled, grizzled and even, well, rained. It wouldn't dare do that two times in a row!

I'm in San Francisco this week (right now), through Friday, then returning next week Mon and Tue. I was here all week last week, too, and went home for the weekend.

Awesome!

I'm glad this is sparking interest. It's always nice to have some guides to show you the non-cliche perspectives on the city. Looking forward to meeting you all.

Anyone else interested?

Sure, I'd love to meet up with you, Aleks, and everyone here in the Bay Area again. My girls would be tagging along as well that weekend, so maybe that can be the theme. :-)

Anyone else up for it?

I just posted a message in the Bay Area DPC Yahoo Group to come check out this thread. Hopefully, that will let a few more people know about this GTG. I also found out that I don't have my daughters that weekend after all, so you're stuck with just me. :-) Looking forward to it!

Just saw this. I've got to be up in Sacramento that evening, but depending where you all go I may be able to join up for an AM shoot. I'll be keeping this one on my watch list.

As of now, this GTG is my plan...
...unless I get a job.

Yes, I'm in! Lets pool our local knowledge and work up some suggestions for an itenery. I'm looking forward to meeting & learning from everyone... my eyes are still bloodshot from looking at that Stereogram he did ! ... kinda like strolling through Haight & Ashbury in the summer of 1967... I'll never forget those times... if I can remember them again!...
//www.sfgate.com/traveler/guide/sf/neighborhoods/haight.shtml

There was a special show on KQED a short while back "Sin, Fire & Gold ~ The Barbary Coast"
//www.kqed.org/w/sinfiregold/

... which depicts the self guided walk through the Historic Area of downtown San Francisco and includes all of the most important & famious landmarks in the city.

Crossing over to the North side of the bridge would also provide good photo ops, (get up close on "SF Alices Tree).

This would also be a great place to get photos in an area with a lot of character:

and... I'll pass on the Zoo.

Also...
... be prepared to get a shot like this great one that Imaginer got when he flew into town!

So who is still down for this get together?

We're still covered in meters of snow here in Montreal! I can't wait to be in San Francisco enjoying the sun, and taking pictures...

Anyone else interesting in joining? Anything happening that weekend worth checking out?

I'll go wake everybody and remind them.

I recently moved to East Bay. I was looking forward for SF GTG since I moved here. But I am visiting my family in IL that week end. I will look forward for the next one.

Yes! The weekend of the 29th & 30th is just about upon us.

There's so much to see in San Francisco, even if it's been photographed again and again, there's still room to reinterpret.

For starters, the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is absolutely stunning right now as the cherry blossoms are out. They presently are at the stage where new blossoms are out and buds are just ready to open. So it 'should' be good next weekend as well. Hours 9-6 and my advice is get there early. Admission is $1.50 for kids and seniors, $4 for everyone else. Parking is easier, early also.

Then the Queen Wilhelmina Windmill, also in GGP, now has its tulips and should be well worth a picture or two. The Pacific is just a step or two away, with the Beach Chalet available for a snap or two, and the Cliff House just down the road.

There are the usual - depending on the weather:
(All of this is drive-by stuff, so carpooling would be ideal)

Golden Gate Bridge, and yes, the Marin Headlands & Ft. Baker spots are dramatic
Coit Tower,
Lombard Street with a good chance at Cable Cars
Overlook at Twin Peaks
Yerba Buena Center

I've just rediscovered the "other crookest street" which is on Vermont St. in Potrero Hill. The residents will hate me, but you reach it from the intersection of 20th Street and Vermont. Go south on Vermont and hold on to your hat. there is a little park at the top of that intersection. Also, that's not far from a favorite street of mine in San Francisco, 24th St, which starts out Latino, with many murals (think of Balmy Alley) and shops where pinatas can be found. then it gets yuppie with little shops and restaurants, and finally steep hills and residential.

Undoubtedly others have more to add to this very preliminary list. I'll be looking forward to hearing more of the plans as they develop.

I'm available on the 29th as I have gallery duty on Sunday.

What's this? No other San Franciscan/Bay Area folks on line today?
03/19/2008 01:18:14 PM · #24
I'll go wake 'em up...

I'm almost Bay Area. ;) Likely won't work for me to meet but I'll keep an eye on the thread just in case. mark
