First Rivers and Streams and now Birds II. I don't mean to be a northern hemisphere chauvenist, but come on. Don't you guys know it's the coldest week of the year?

I am so with you. It's 7 degrees here, and I that's a 10 degree improvment from yesterday!

If I go for this one, it's going to be a real creative interpretation, which usually equals a low score due the the "DNMC patrol"

7 Degrees ? Do you have many Penguins in Winsconsin ? Or is it too cold ?

Perhaps 'flipping the bird' or Origami will be acceptable? Heh.

It's cold here too, -11ÂșC today, but there are birds in my back garden and I know if I go to the lake or the park there will be a lot of birds there too.

Really cold here too, but snow should be coming tomorrow. Brings all the cool birds out.

Yep, you could always take inspiration from De Sousa:

Just for reference, here's the first BIRD challenge: Birds

Cold here in NC too. Was 17 this morning. The only birds I've seen so far is the fake eagle on my coffee table. I'll keep looking for a very colorful brown sparrow to show up to eat the bread I threw out the back window this morning. "Colorful Sparrow" was a joke by the way! Maybe a trip to the pet store! May be my only chance at a 3.9! Yea!!!

Cold? What's that? ;oP

This was taken at around -20C (before taking into account the windchill)

Part of my issue is that I'm a total wuss about the cold. I got home from work friday and didn't leave my house until I had to come out for work today.

And I hate hot weather too.
And bugs.
and itchy things.

But I love complaining.

It was -5 here this morning, looking forward to the challenge. This and all times are great for bird shooting. In our are we have approx. 20 species of waterfowl, 8 species of gulls, 8 species of woodpeckers, and many other species that can be found this time of year. So, get dressed for the cold and get out and do some shooting. You can always go to a zoo, or nature center and shoot at their feeders. Should be a great challenge. Van

I was thinking of going for a shot of a Bird in the cheeky cockney sense - I can get those without leaving the house ;-)

took this at the end of December in Buffalo, NY while on vacation...this bird was also dealing with the elements. I think the temp that day was 8 Deg F.

I agree with people saying it has been cold. It was minus 30 degrees F. here in MN just two days ago and never did get above zero all day. But I am very excited about this challenge! It will give me chance to use my new lens from ellamay in a challenge.

I've hung a birdfeeder outside my place in the hopes it will draw birds...it is...just one species so far though!

Well hey, maybe they're just giving us southern hemisphere folks a chance, for a change.

Just so you know, there are lots of birds that hang around all winter, like those cute little Chickadees.

Chicka dee dee dee

at least when there are no leaves on the trees it is easier to find the subject : )

I am surrounded by fields. No chicadees, just a few mourning doves and a lot of crows around now. My wife saw a pelligrine falcon yesterday, but it was gone by the time I got my camera. Had a warm day last week and saw 2 bluebirds, male and female, checking out one of our bluebird boxes. I don't know where they go when its cold. Slim pickings really. Maybe some turkeys will come by.

I am wondering how do sea gulls and pigeons go down in such a competition? And that's a Liverpool city sea gull and pigeon, not the healthiest of bird species. On top of that, the usual cloudy, rainy, dark and dull day of the british northern hemisphere... I suppose I could find a poor, crippled, silty pigeon trying to wash itself in a puddle, now that would make you feel sorry for it...

GRRRRR!

I went out to photograph birds for this challenge, and not 5 minutes into it, an owl poops on my head.
So much for that shoot...
