In another online forum in which I participate, there is a long-running thread that started back in 2004. I thought I would start something similar here. I did a quick search in these forums and didn't find any evidence of an existing thread on this topic, so here goes...

Show us your gear bag!

You don't have to get as elaborate as I did (or you can get much more detailed, if you want to). You can just post a photo of your open gear bag, then just type in the contents of it in the message. How ever you want is fine.

I'll start:

When I'm "out and about", this is usually have I carry. Not pictured is a tripod.

Ok, I have a quick question about a phrase that you have in your image.

"Card reader & cable, business cards, copy of Photographer's Rights, rubber bands, Passport."

I'm just curious as too what all those "Rights" consist of? ...If I'm out of line asking this then please ignore this and I will edit and remove the aforementioned question. Thanks, from a curious co-photog.

Fantastic idea! I'm not sharing because I am a newb, but I would love to see what everyone else carries! Your bag seems to hold SO much and it isn't all that big Looks like it's about the size of a lappie around the bottom?

The Photographer's Right can be downloaded and viewed here.

There's been much discussion about it on DPC in the past. If this link doesn't work, simply search on "krages" from the DPC search page.

Lowepro Micro Trekker 200
Main compartment, starting in the upper left corner as shown in the first photo:

Tokina 12-24 f4 DX; Nikkon 24 2.8 in gear bag, don't remember what brand. It has a CP and lens hood attached; Sigma 105mm macro; D300 w/ 70-200 2.8 VR attached; B&W 77mm Slim CP; SB600; Nikkor 50 1.4 and 1.8 stacked, with Optek close up filters on top in their own case.

Mesh compartment in main has rear lens caps, spare batteries for D300; lenspen and a card for ID.

Outside compartments:

left sliplok has an 8 slot CF card holder; left pocket currently empty, usually holds my ipod; right pocket has a couple of plastic bags.
Top zippered area has a couple of microfiber lens cloths.
Front compartment has a gear bag which holds my remotes, spare batteries for the flash, extra filters, cleaning supplies.
This compartment also has some business cards, pens, extra plate for tripod, a small notebook, pocket rocket blower, and the D300 manual. I also carry a copy of the photographers rights.

I'll also take the Bigma in its own case if i'm going to need it, and the tripod or monopod. Most of this gear will also fit into the sling bag, and if i'm carrying extra bodies and want everything together, i've got a huge computrekker as well.

Well, that's handy. Thanks for posting it. I'm bound to get in trouble one of these days because of my brazen way of taking candids. But if I do... AHA!... I can whip out my photographer's rights and show them good!

That monster has me reconfiguring everything! I picked one up in December and have had a heck of a time finding the right bag combo (have numerous Lowepro shoulder and holster bags).

I've finally found a solution (two actually). For Christmas I rec'd the Lowepro CompuTrekker Plus AW Backpack. Plenty of room in there, although I'll admit it hasn't seen an outing yet - perhaps tomorrow. :)

My daily solution for carrying the Bigma is a Lowepro Topload Zoom AW Holster (the biggest one they offer, which is on sale now BTW). My camera just fits with the lens attached. Using sliplock cases on the side for bringing other lens and filters. This seems to work fine now for daily transporting. No excuses for missing that bald eagle shot next time! I see one on my way to work every couple of weeks.

Nice thread Les. I'll post some pics of the above described bags soon. :-)

He's got Duracell, but my PowerEx batteries came with the containers ... in fact, each time I order they send me an extra container assuming I'll need one for my existing batteries as well.

Ditto! I was just looking at those saying "oh, I need to find a few of those battery containers" ... they're awesome ... where can I get a few?

Fry's electronics, 99 cents each. Last time I was there they also had some that held 2 batteries for 59 cents.
4-up battery container at Frys.com
2-up battery container at Frys.com

The Caselogic bag has some pockets in the side compartment that they fit into perfectly.

Now if only they had ones that held 5 for my SB-800....

Excellent, thanks! I don't have a Fry's around here to buy locally from, so I added 2 of them to the cart and checked shipping costs ... they want $6.08 to ship to me! LOL ... I think I'll look around at the electronics stores here before giving them that much to ship to me!

I'll start:

When I'm "out and about", this is usually have I carry. Not pictured is a tripod.

Some have asked questions about some of my accessories listed on the photo...

Optech Rainsleeve
B&H has them, but you can find them at your local Ritz Camera for US$5.95 (for a pack of two)

Carabiner
Used to hold stuff...1001 uses. For example, I can hook my bag onto the bottom of the center post of my tripod of extra stability. Once, while out urban shooting, I bought something at a local gift shop and they put it in a medium-sized paper bag with twine handles. In order to carry it and shoot at the same time, I hooked it onto one of my backpack straps with the carabiner.

Rubber Bands
I always keep one or two in my bag. I wrap it around my wireless remote shutter release transmitter to secure it to the tripod. I do this because with it dangling straight down, it tends to sway, which could cause camera shake.

Here's mine as it currently stands:

Also the mandatory tripod that comes with me everywhere. It's a sturdy manfrotto aluminium with a velbon ball head on it, and a strap that I've screwed into the centre pole and into a carribener to the ring at the head.

This is my standard London roaming loadout. For travel there's additional card reader and laptop. Also not featured is a spare 2gb CF card.

This is pretty much it, plus my IR D70 that sometimes travels, light stands, reflectors, SB600, cokin filters, and the mandatory tripod that don't fit in my primary bag.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd really like to see some more bags, it's interesting to see what people carry.

My stuff is pretty disorganized right now... split between a Lowepro Nova 1 AW and a Pelican 1450, since my 70-300 is significantly larger than my old 50-200. So that means... I need to buy a new bag! Goodbye hard-earned dollars, hello Dakine Sequence... I'll post some pics once I pick one up.
