Have you tried and do you recomend 24-85mm f/3,5-4,5 USM?

I don't have this lens but I know a person who has it. The general consensus is that it is a very neutral lens - not bad, but nothing exceptional either.

Between the 24-85 and 28-135, I ended up choosing the 28-135 for the range and IS capability. But sometimes I do wish that I had that extra 4mm of wide angle, though.

I have it and have used it for about a year as my 'travel' lens. (I take it when the only lens I'll be using)

The quality is so-so, certainly pretty acceptable. It is a bit soft at the corners and noticeably suffers on enlargements over about 8x10 but other than that I really like this lens. I particularly wanted the extra wide angle over the several 28mm- zooms that Canon makes.

Another advantage that I find is that it matches well the range of the 70-200 F4L and has the same filter ring size too.

San Diego Gallery (24-85)
Australia 03 (all 24-85) apart from the bride/groom kissing which is a 50mm 1.8 (I think that shot really shows the difference between a great prime and an okay zoom)

It's an OK lens. I have the 28-135mm IS and prefer that as a general purpose and "walking around" lens for the extra range and sharpness. Aside from the 50mm lenses, this is the sharpest Canon lens that I have that is not "L" series. This and the 17-40mm f/4 make a good combo for travelling light when I am taking only two lenses with me.

Check out Fred Miranda's site for reviews of different canon lenses. It's been pretty helpful to me. I also have the 28-135mm IS lens. I mainly got it for the Image Stabilization (IS).
