OK, I know it hasn't been that long since the last one, but I am thinking ahead to organising the next one. This time taking in as many photogenic areas as possible. I am maybe looking at a date in March/April, not too many tourists and hopefully better weather than last time.

I have a rough route planned out already, maybe I could put a google earth tour together so you can see how slick it is and how all the sections are very close to each other. So, here goes..

Start at London Eye.
Go Past London Aquarium (Old City Hall)
Across Westminster Bridge to
Houses of Parliament/Parliament Square/Big Ben/Westminster Abbey
Up Whitehall, inc Downing Street, The Cenotaph, Horseguards etc.
Trafalgar Square, - Nelsons Column, stunning architecture, National Portrait Gallery.
Head down The Mall - Admiralty Arch
Into Hyde Park, Horseguards Parade etc
Buckingham Palace
Birdcage walk/Hyde Park
The Treasury building.
Back into Parliament Square.

The whole route is a little under 3 miles, and if we start early enough we could even end the day with a trip on the river down to Tower Bridge/Tower of London, only costs a fiver or so.
Loads of photo ops, a few pubs, plenty of places to sit and have a rest. I'll throw the idea out now, give us some time to get names together. Maybe even give some non-brit DPCers a chance to organise a short break over here.

Anyway, willl leave it at that for the time being.. any up for it?

That would be great...I was hoping to see at least half of what is on your list while I was there...but wasn't sure how I was going to do it.

Well, if we started at say 10am, we could do all that by 3pm, if you wanted to do the River thing as well, I reckon we could get down to Tower Bridge/Tower of London by 4pm. If you actually wanted to look around the Tower then I would suggest at least hlaf a day purely for that, loads to see (and shoot). But if you are happy just taking shots of the outside then you could do it easily in a day, you could even walk up to St Pauls Cathedral from the Tower in around 15 mins, then walk down to the River, across the Millienium Bridge and end up here at around 7pm. But thats if you took a leisurely stroll, you could probably do it all a lot faster than that.

I am definitely interested - the earlier a date is finalised the better, so that I can get a cheap rail ticket booked.

I'm in if it's in March, I'm in Luxembourg for most of April.
The route sounds good to me!

With this type of advance warning, I can most likely make it too (as long as it's not Easter week). I missed the last one, but really enjoyed the September 07 GTG and would love to join for this.

I guess you can shove my name down, I'll try to have a shave and wear something decent this time.

Is that the best disguise you can think of on the spot?

Dont worry about that, just try to turn up on time would probably be best. :)

Judi,
the problem with your dates are they are mid-week. always quite hard to get people together for a mid-week GTG, but if I can get enough names together we could still make it work, I for one would be well up for it.

Put me down - I am determined to get to this one !

Edit to add - Easter holiday is early this year -
In 2008 the Easter weekend will fall between Friday March 21st and Monday March 24th inclusive.

I am determined that we should meet up, Mike! 11 miles apart is a real long way. Perhaps this is the way to do it? I will try to make it, but I hate travelling with equipment on a train to London. I can do this...I know I can :)

Sadly it looks like I'd have to miss this one then :o( Unfortunately for me there is no way I could manage so many places in one day and I'm pretty sure my wheelchair pusher wouldn't be too chuffed if I asked him to push me to them all either! :o(

I have experience of pushing, and I am sure there would be volunteers!

Hey Steve, thanks ever so much for the offer! I'll have to have a word with my chief 'pusher' and see if he thinks we'll be able to make it :o) Am sure he'd be happy to have a bit of help so that might make things easier for us :o) Will keep an eye on this thread and see what dates are set etc :o)

I'm in. I need to make two trips to the UK this year. Choose and date and I'll schedule my trips around that.

01/06/2008 10:50:40 AM · #24
well, it looks like it might be split between 2 GTGs now, we may do a smaller scale one for when Judi is over here (obviously the more the merrier), but also a weekend version for the Brit working crowd... we'll nail dates over next few weeks, but this way it gives us PLENTY of notice.

Give me enough advance notice and perhaps a couple of tips on cheap places to stay, and I'm in. Oh, and I'm good for at least a bit of pushing, Natalya, as long as they're moving slowly and it's not horribly uphill or downhill. :-)
