So I am working on my website...more...yeah...

and I have come up with a new home page arrangement but after 3 hours of messing with it don't know if I like it better or not.

What do you say?

Here is my homepage now

Here is what I came up with for a new design

Also, is there anything that I can do to make it look more catchy or something? It feels really plain to me.

Thanks!
Claire

I personally prefer the central positioning...it seems more balanced.

I have been looking for a new font for my name, do you think the central positioning would be better with the new font or is the old font more appealing?

I prefer the new font but am not sure it would suit the central positioning...may look overcrowded.

I like the second one (with one caveat) for several reasons:
- I prefer the new font for your name, it has a lot of class. The other borders on hard to read rather than stylish.
- I like the menu down the side. It's obvious what to do next. Across the top, it blends with the name and I lose sight of it.
- I like the off centered look. It feels more creative.

The one caveat: The "contact me" text is flowing off the left edge of the dark background (I'm using firefox and am viewing this on a 1680x1050 monitor, if that makes any difference).

Hmmm....goofy. I have been having trouble aligning the bottom part because it changes on every computer while the rest of the stuff doesn't and I can't figure out why. Thanks for pointing it out!

They both look good but I prefer the 2nd one.

Second one, no doubt. Although the real strength lies in the great pics ofcourse.

I like the big "C" on Claire in the new one. The font along the right side in the new one, however, seems too plain in relationship to the font at the top. I think the new menu on the side is better than the old menu on the top. The new one seems to load a little quicker as well. Regarding catchiness, the background color is nice and neutral for displaying your photos, but I wonder if making it more bright would help the catchiness.

This issue with the menu on the side is that it is made with text in html...so I think that some browsers cannot read the font. The font on the side menu should be the same as the font to the right of the big C in my name...but I don't know how to make it in text without using a picture but make it so that it looks exactly the same in every browser on any computer.... :-/

Google stylesheets.

I like them both...clean and simple with easy navigation. I think I'd have a hard time actually choosing a favorite though. ;-) Maybe use both and switch from time to time.

just want to say that you have really AWESOME photography. I love it!!

I much prefer the second version. I like the off centre design, very classy. Great photography too.

I like the second one better.

I much prefer the new version to the old version. Both took a long time to load up, though.

Why is there that blink blink between photo transitions? Shouldn't it be smooth?

I'm seeing the same thing - there's a flash of the previous photo before it transitions to the next. Other than that and the text positioning problem, I think your site looks great.

Really?? I have no idea what that is or how to fix it...I don't have that. What browser are you using?

I wasn't getting it either. The transition was fine for me. I like the second website. I think the links on the side make it look more organized and easier to find. With the first one I kept trying to click on the picture, because I scrolled down and didn't see the links at the top. As far as the rest of the site, it's great! You did a really good job!!

I don't see it... Seems to work fine for me.

I like the new site a lot more than the old one by the way. Good job!

Edit to add: Using Firefox.

Thanks! The last time I talked to someone who couldn't see my font stuff was using a mac with some weird browser I had never heard of, something other than Safari...hmmmm

I looked up the google stylsheet and didn't get it....sigh...my poor brain :)

ps. I am slowing down the slideshow a bit.

I like the second one. I think that it is find as it is now with the exception of the old text on the different pages that was in the same font as your old homepage. I think that it would look better and be more fitting on your new look if it were changed to match the font on the homepage.

Great site by the way. Good luck with your photography.

Older Mac with an older version of Netscape gives the psychedelic transition for me.
Newer Mac with Safari is ok.
