Similarly, would you be able to combine over- and under-exposures to also seemingly 'remove' objects?

Ai-yi-yiiii...so many loopholes. Getting the feeling this new ruleset is going to be crazy for awhile.

If I recall correctly, that has been nixed. It's no different than any other processing technique for removing the undesirable... If it would "change the typical viewer's description of..." it's a no-no.

A typical viewer's description would include ... OMG ... there was ONE human in the frame ... NOW there are TWO or THREE or FOUR or ... and they are even the SAME FREAKING HUMAN!

I got a question. Is image stacking for noise reduction purposes legal? I know you can use multiple exposures for HDRIs but can you use it for noise reduction?

Yes, absolutely.

Thanks. John's tutorial had me wondering.

I've read most of the thread, and I'm still very confused. I want to enter an image in the Free Study... [description of photo removed]

Is that legal?

Hard to picture what you intend to submit from the description you gave (I've removed the description in the interest of anonymity). Best to submit a ticket via the Contact page and we'll take a look for you.

AFAIK, the January Free Study is still running under the Advanced VI rule set which does allow the effect you describe.

The challenges announced tonight do not allow this use of multiple images. However, if you could create this image with a single exposure, I "believe" it would still be legal under the newest rules.

Just wondering if the reintroduction of "Expert" editing is still on the table for some point in the future.

Me, too. The Expert Editing challenges were fun and popular. Sure, some people griped about it. But some people gripe about everything.

Speaking of Expert editing, Minimal has been way overdue ;)

That is so cynical. I'd like to lodge a complaint about this comment.

:-p

It would be cool to have a Tuesday Open Challenge as one Minimal, and one Expert - but both with the same subject. It would be really interesting to compare results, and both camps are catered for.

There's been on every single week.

The font is just so small you cannot see it on the home page. My only blue was of "The Emperor's New Clothes".

There's nothing preventing you from entering any challenge using Minimal editing ... probably 90% of my entries into Advanced challenges use only Basic-legal editing ...

I do the same thing (to my detriment at times). Still, it would be nice to meausre our pre-processing skills against a field of entries that ALL have minimal editing.

That is such a cool idea, also if people were allowed to enter both, you'd have to use the same basic capture, interesting to see how some people would treat the same photo using different approaches

Nah. It'll still measure the same things the other challenges measure. That is those who are most creative, have the best equipment and or the best subjects will prevail. The creative part is the only thing out of the three that even speaks to the photographer's abilities and you'll need more of it if you have inferior equipment or subject matter. Even then you'll still need to show that you shot it with what looks like very good equipment cuz the voters are not going to care if you was creative in the setup unless it's as clear as day in your photograph.

Now maybe if everyone had to shoot the same subject with the same equipment I'd be more inclided to agree with you.

Is it me, or did the font size shrink on dpchallenge?? While I was doing some photo editing, I thought I'd check into here, to find I can barely read the print.

I don't think it's changed -- maybe check to make sure you didn't change monitor resolutions while editing.
