Otherwise the objects in a time lapse single image need to be distinct with regard to placement in the frame in order to remain uncluttered. I think the DPC definition of time lapse is a misnoma and should be changed to more accurately reflect the intention. |

haha yeah, the 8.5 pfs and the 10 fps of the MkIIn and th MkIII should get some hammer this week ;-)

Haven't read all of this thread so my apologies if this has been said already!
Looks like this is me stuffed for member challenges from now on :o( Not only can I not edit 1 shot and make it look ok, now I have to fight against people who can take up to 10 different shots and edit all of them fantastically...
Bye bye member challenges hello open challenges (please Langdon, don't change the rules for those!) :o(

| I feel your pain, Natalya. My favorite part of the advanced ruleset was the option to use blending modes. Beyond that, though, I'm a basic edit kinda person. So here's what we do - you and I - we enter member challenges (when it's something we can shoot for - not thinking time lapse will work for me) and do it within our own comfort zone. Deal? |

Other than the current challenge using the new rules just because you can doesn't mean to have to. Am pretty sure if you look at advanced editing results from the past many ribbons came from shots with minimal (read basic) editing.
I'm at a loss with the new rules but hey, am not too old to learn new tricks (or maybe I am). I've signed up to the Best of Marathon so shall see how things go. |

Hi !
Except the new size , it all sounds very caotic for me...
Sorry but I still don't understand why this is not allowed  , is it because the selective desat or because something else ?
About the blending modes , can someone please explain it ?
(Blending modes are overlay , screen , saturation , etc ? Or something like textures and so ? )
If Natalya says it's over so it is but... Each time I read it , I understand it less , surely my fault but I really would appreciate "new rules for dummies".

| Hey Natalya I also feel for you, but lets not lose sight of the fact that the word Photography means painting with light, not painting with photoshop! It is the seeing of the imagethat counts not all the editing afterwards! And looking at your photos before and after wheelchair you have the eye for painting with light please do not give uo now! |

I understand what you are saying Andi, but, you know me and know my limits as far as PS is concerned. I only got into photography about 2 and a half years ago and at the 'start' barely touched my camera. When I did start 'snapping', thanks to you and a few other great photographers, I learnt so much (well I thought I did) and began to love the feeling you get when you look through the viewfinder and see what you think is a great shot. To then put it on your PC and see that it's actually not bad at all is a great and for someone with VERY poor PS skills like me, that 'straight from the camera' feeling is one I've learnt to love.
Now, no doubt all those who have praised the new ruleset will be reading my post and thinking 'Ha"! She's just moaning cos she's crap at PS'...maybe your right, and I am sure many DPC'ers have won ribbons with basic editing in advanced editing challenges...you know, I'm going to give up here and just say although I'd call DPC my photography 'home' as a certain someone said to me a short while ago...'it's not the be all and end all of photography'...

I don`t think there is there is such a thing as time lapse other than in moving pictures like this.
If the final image is a still image then it`s called multiple exposures.
Could someone post an example of a time lapse thats not a video or multiple exposure. |

I'm with you. Most time lapse shots that I could find were either videos which dont count or the moon in the sky or trailing lights of cars or stars which is more like longer exposure. I cant think of anything original. Any ideas to throw around. |

There are no examples as it has never been done :-)
It should be re-named multiple exposures or long exposures. |

I really think the 10 photo hdr thing is a big mistake. This basicly gives landscape photography a big advantage over just about any other type of photography. I think landscapes are over represented and are over voted already. This new rule will discourage most of us who can't do hdr because of inadequate software, or who have little interest in landscape photography.
Another problem with the new rule is that it will create endless arguements about what is legal and what is not.
And where did this come from? No one was clammoring for this sort of change. It was fine for expert editing...I for the most part just skip those challenges. No vote on this prior to the change, no discussion.
My only recourse will be to vote any photo I think uses hdr a low score. |

you'd be well within your rights to do so ... no one's forcing to like a certain type of photography ... or telling you how to vote

| I like the file size and pixel size changes, but not the multiple images - sorry. I just think it will allow a narrow slice of the population to take advantage of it which I am sure will be reflected in the results. JMO which always seems to get trounced on but that is how I feel about it. |
